Did GitHub try to fight this in courts? As with Slack, why does it just happen out of the blue? Sanctions on Iran have been there for at least a year, sanctions on Crimea since 2014 - so why now?

ggplot2 is not just a package, it's an implementation of a grammar language and this is what makes it so hard to substitute. plotnine tries to mimic it and is good for easy stuff but still far behind what can be easily done with ggplot

If Belgium is any indication, there has been a strong lobbying from the French-speaking media for Article 11. They've been unsuccessfully trying to "extort" money from Google News for years now [1] (in French). Article 11

I agree this is probably what happened. From the estimation object I see around a total of 3500 training samples with around 90 predictors. 3-fold cross-validation was done so at each iteration only around 2150 samples were used for trainin

My bank app refused to install on a rooted phone. I used Magisk Manager to work around that. I guess it could work in this case as well. There is a 'hide root' option (or something similar).

Thanks, that's a fair point. I do value user freedom and also come from the R language where GPL rules among packages. It's true though that Rust crate culture leans much more to MIT. I think GPL3/MIT as a dual license should

According to OSM, there are no houses in the swapped areas, so they probably just swapped some grass, sand and roads.

Judging by this Twitter feed and Stata output, it looks that we are looking at a classic case of "correlation does not imply causality". Clinton shift might be correlated with paper vs. electronic ballot but it looks like district

I heard an argument some time that European healthcare and health R&D is indirectly subsidised by the US. The mechanism at works is 1) US consumers are ripped off by pharma; 2) pharma's higher profits lead to higher investment in R

There was a nice article in The Economist [1] a few months ago on just about this issue - how it relates to global warming, forest densification, mismanagement, etc. [1] http://www.economist.com/news/briefing/21701

State aid has been forbidden or at least heavily regulated in the EU since the Treaty of Rome in 1957, although Ireland joined later in 1973. No need to play the victim here and stoke anti-EU feelings. Apple got caught, and rightfully so. T

The title is subtly misleading. This ruling applies not only in the EU countries but also in in member countries of Council of Europe. That is EU, EEA, Balkans, Russia, Turkey and a few more.
