Good to know, thanks! I feel like from a UX perspective, it'd be ideal to be able to give some friendly error message to at least acknowledge that the failure is on the server end. A page that says, "Sorry, we're having trouble accessing yo

I'm curious about this as well. While it's all very neat and improves the user experience when everything is working, what happens if things break? If you can't connect to S3 or something, but you've already sent HTTP headers for the ZIP do

I feel like this is more of a role for a framework built on top of PHP than for a language like PHP itself. PHP itself is pretty low-level. How would you suggest providing better protection against these? In the past, of course, PHP did hav

I don't know if this counts as meeting, but I consider myself a developer that is interested in programming, doing things right, etc., and I like PHP. I see PHP as a language comparable to English. Both languages have a bunch of inconsisten

You're correct. Type hinting was introduced with PHP 5, which makes it about eight years old. http://php.net/manual/en/language.oop5.typehinting.php

What's really annoying about the IsNot operator is that it's not consistent with TypeOf ... Is. In other words, you can't do this: If TypeOf obj IsNot MyClass Then ' ... Instead you have to do: If Not TypeOf obj Is My

Given that Visual Studio underlines all your compilation errors and lists them in the Error List as you write your code, I don't see how this would work.

Agreed, that's a huge part of health insurance, and that's why I would never consider dropping coverage. But in practice, wouldn't health insurance almost have to subsidize the expenses of high-cost folks at the expense of low-cost folks? A

Do you have any numbers that actually suggest poor parents are profiting off of such programs? Children are, strictly financially speaking, a huge expense.

If someone cannot afford to feed his or her child and the child starves--literally or metaphorically--who's bearing the responsibility? Edit: To be clear, I agree that you shouldn't have a child you can't afford, but mistakes happen, situ

On the topic of .NET's abysmal failure, it always killed me that ASP.NET's (Web Forms', at least) default custom 404 behavior was to return a 302 Found status code then redirect to a 404 Not Found page. For example: http://www.microsoft.co
