I don't see why that would matter very much. The valuation so early is going to be highly subjective in any case. If you are willing to consider such an offer, then the two relevant things to consider are 1) what fraction of the compan

I was thinking about why I liked SNOBOL4/SPITBOL so much. The bizarre syntax and control structures appealed to me for some reason. If you haven't used the language, each statement can succeed or fail. At the end of the statement,

Forgot to mention it in my original comment, but in the grad-level compiler course, we actually wrote a compiler in SPITBOL. I don't remember if the language choice was optional or mandatory, but I did enjoy it.

I love SNOBOL4/SPITBOL. It was a completely bizarre and original language that was quite powerful. In the late 70s, I took two compiler courses with RBK Dewar, one of the creators of SPITBOL. Those courses were wonderful. He mentioned

Yes. Switched to iPhone. I like the access to the filesystem, available on some Android phones, but the iPhone is a superior product in my opinion. The two main advantages are 1) not having to care about which kind of memory an app is sitti

The first article says that you don't have to use EZPass if you are concerned about privacy, and the eventual automation of speeding tickets. That won't be true forever. I've run into some tolls that are EZPass ONLY. Some of

There are two photo apps? Seriously, I'm not aware of this. I'm talking about "Photos" whose logo is eight ovals of color arranged in a circle. (The fact that this confusion is even possible is part of the problem.) My e

Not a troll. I don't know what I'd use instead, I gave up Linux-only years ago, and now use a Linux VM for development, Mac for everything else. Also, networking through the Mac is still simpler, at least for now. I know that Linu

The first decision is SQL or NoSQL. There is one right answer, almost regardless of requirements: SQL. (My personal choice would be Postgres over MySQL.) If you are lucky enough to get to the point of having scalability problems, and vertic

This sounds like a trial balloon. With Holder saying it, they can proceed or not. If the current AG says it, they have taken an irrevocable step.

Sure, it can go spectacularly wrong. It really depends on the manager. I don't know this story at all, but I can see two possibilities: 1) This is a know-nothing manager who doesn't really know much, but somehow correctly identifi

It sounds like a VIEW would handle this restriction also. And then you should be able to use any ORM or lower level of abstraction.

Right, so an ORM makes the easy things easier. The hard things are either harder or you need the escape hatch. I've both created an ORM (long ago, back in Java 1.0 days) and used a few. My conclusion is that the real pain in interactin

Pens can be used to write dull, cliched, uninspired novels. Many bad novels have been written using pens. Therefore pens should be banned. Disclaimer: I do, in fact, hate powerpoint.
