Right, but doesn't this ends up giving SaaS and server side businesses a weird kinda-nonsensical advantage? I'm thinking, say you make some innovative new algo using GPL software. If you try to distribute it to your customers you

I haven't had a use for it myself, but it seems like it would be a nice thing for Github/lab to facilitate. Maybe it'd be possible to somehow do it cleanly from within git? Have a license-transfer file that reading FOR ALL WO

I'm a bit surprised "dual licensing" hasn't come up at all in this discussion. To me that is the most logical next-step from the GPL. (ex: The Qt/JUCE people are using it to great effect) - If you want to work on ex

Living in China I've noticed that the attitude towards the very young does seem really similar to the attitude they have towards their pets. It's always been so baffling. Do you have any other info on the second point?

I've only heard good things about PlatformIO, but it always seems like they sorta reinvented the wheel instead of using existing tools. They've done a LOT of the hard work of making stuff "just-work", but why didn't

I'm not an OpenGL expert or anything, but I get the impression the author doesn't really know what he's talking about and sounds a bit amateurish (I'm a bit hesitant to say that given it's a professor at Cornell..)

In a similar vein there is ATS - which already compiles to C. And you can in theory write controller code in ATS if you want those functional features and more ex: (this guy has done examples on a ton of boards!) https://github.c

thanks! I guess you're right, it doesn't seem so bad. I might dig into this more next time I have a project that needs a UI.

It's been a few years since I've done some real R work, but my general impression of things was that "core R" - ie. the R that is explained in the R manual - is actually a bit deprecated. It's not the correct way to

He basically admits that several of the "improvements" boils down to ripping out patterns that decouple code instead of finding alternate solutions. They're kinda quick and dirty, not agile, and could make refactoring a night

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your reply, but the GSL is the checker. It adds header constructs that create compile time errors based on bad practices. The whole point is that there is no need for an external tool.

While R is superficially very similar - having used both, my impression is that it's actually not for the same use-cases as Matlab/Octave. Matlab is primarily for linear algebra, while R is primarily for data-frame manipulation (w
