Yeah - don't do it at all, thats my advice. I learned to write some Rails about a year ago, best decision of my life. Yeah, I get its me, but I can't imagine doing it any other way. When you start your business it will need endless tweaks a

You are not wrong, however, I think the you have maybe missed the main point in the article which is yeah, competition is inevitable, but at least while your getting started its probably best not to share your idea (yes, just an idea) with

You are absolutely right. I used to be all about the ideas and think it was all about ideas, it'll be hard to explain here in few words but I think ideas are worthless up till a point. Yeah, the startup process is heavily weighted towards e

While I'm happy discussing my "ideas" with most, I don't think discussing them on an open forum such as HN (entrepreneurs, coders, wannabe's, veterans, the lot) is a smart idea. You wouldn't openly discuss a "oh my god I've just stumbled ac

You know what, I'm totally new to this party in that this is my first ever written comment on the situation. But I have to admit, I'm starting to get pretty pissed. The thing that really gets me, and the thing that has recently dawned on me

What would I do? I guess firstly I'd try and be as realistic as I possibly could, what I mean bu that is to approach this in a real hard-ass way as opposed to a "its my idea, so I should keep x" kind of way. But you don't seem like that kin

Yeah, look, best of luck to you and we're in a similar space. I'm all for social commerce, I just think possibly the boundaries of whats within their intended scope are being pushed here. I don't want to get into it too much because we'll u

Yeah, but look at the design - I mean I don't have a position on this, but in my opinion it LOOKS like a Facebook button... I'm sure they didn't intend opengraph to be a landgrab of sorts.

I used to work with a company who provide most of the network/software/hardware for hotels/airports/tran stations/lobbies around the world. Some very interesting insights from the hotels side of things.

CSS is not "very, very hard" - I learned Rails after HTML css, and its simple as pie. I wouldn't classify myself as super smart. I just think the structure is such that is straight forward, <div class="something"> to .something {} I

In all seriousness, if anyone is racking their brains for an idea I'm happy to share some thoughts. I'm an idea's guy at heart (coder by day) and there just aren't enough hours in the day. I might even start a blog, open source ideas.

Hey I guess I'll be the first to say make sure your doing enough for the traffic that you already have. Make sure your nailing your conversion rates, and try and get a reasonable level of virality happening i.e. Users inviting other users.
