If a crypto coin transaction has passed through a wallet which is known to be held by a scammer (or Russian govt), you can blacklist that coin. Tumblers help, but takes away credibility.

People seem to think that it’s easy to create a SWIFT alternative (one that gains acceptance) and that Putin is logging into Coinbase to buy bitcoin. Neither is going to happen.

That's what I've been wondering. If this drags on for too long and becomes too costly for the Russians, what are the odds that Putin gets rolled?

I've always assumed that Gmail gave Google the opportunity to see how people actually type (use words), so they can link topics together and improve their search capabilities. The value of this would exceed the cost of email I would im

Select * is lazy and gives future developers (or even yourself later on) any hints about your intention for the query. Never use *, you’ll thank yourself later on.

At a very large bank here in Australia & NZ, all XML messages going through the main message bus had a trailing space character appended to the end, which broke XML validation on the receiving endpoint. So the solution was for all endpo

Iframes were a non-standard IE-only feature that also had accessibility issues and obviously wouldn't work in Netscape. They were very handy for a variety of scenarios so it became part of the spec, but I think most self-respecting web

It really bothers me when people try and pass off bamboo-based fabrics as being natural. It's called rayon and it's about as synthetic as you can possibly get. For those who are interested: https://en.wikipedia.org/

I find the concept of a black dwarf to be fascinating. Like you said - none have existed yet, and any absorption of matter as it floats through space will prolong its radiant heat. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_dw

I bought down one of Australasia's biggest banks for 8 hours when I requested a backup of the production database for a test cycle we were about to start. Unfortunately the database structure had changed and the backup script hadn'

In New Zealand, immigration send details of selected individuals to US Homeland Security for further analysis. The reason it goes to the US is because we (NZ) don't have the resources to do what the US does. Homeland Security specifica

I asked my dad about this a while back - he spent his entire career in civil engineering and he said almost exactly what you just did. Basically; modern concrete is far better, but often not built that way.

Mince pies are definitely a thing in New Zealand (and Australia to some extent). They come in all sorts of varieties - plain mince, mince and cheese (yum), steak and cheese, mince and potato, and then some exotic varieties like butter chick

As a New Zealander, it pains me to see how Aboriginal Australians were (and still are) treated. In NZ, we're not perfect, but holy moly Australia is 50 years behind us.

Using em and ex is definitely the best way of doing relative font sizing, but the reason is something I don't think people properly understand. 1em is the width of a capital M character. 1ex is the height of the capital X character (of

I asked my parents about this, and they said that peanuts weren't common back then - they were expensive and a luxury so as a result we didn't have such widespread visibility of the problem.

But given that it's so small, what would the gravitational forces be if you made a shell with a 100km radius? Or pick a number - surely at some point it might be practical to build something.

I've been wondering - if the black hole was very small (I've read elsewhere that it would be grapefruit sized), would it be possible to build some kind of box around it so you couldn't accidentally go into the event horizon?
