From the press release: > "At 3.1 GHz this 28HPM dual-core processor implementation is twice as fast as its counterpart at TSMC 40nm under the same operating conditions." I assume power consumption is not being counted as an operating

Very interesting comment about the notation for package-level scoping. When I worked with Java, most of the devs I worked alongside also used package-level access for more complicated private methods in order to unit test, but I've never se

> Google could take full control of Android, by not releasing future versions to open source and changing licensing terms. The logic: Android is too big to fail, that OEMs would have no other choice but align their customized platforms

I think this is a terrible idea. Implementers of Python should code to a unified Python standard, instead of asking programmers of Python to code to a disparate collection of implementations.

If only hardware research and optimization had gone the way of stack machines instead of register machines. I can only imagine the world of Lisp machines, Forth machines and APL/J Machines that would exist if the hardware more closely match

When I see misplaced advertising like this, I just remember that it's not Google's fault; they didn't consciously make the decision that dinosaurs are childish/recreational fantasies that should be associated with gaming. It's the fault of

I have this book. This book is good, and very complete from a traditional formals grammars point-of-view (LL, LR, SLR, LALR), and has very good sections on top-down and bottom-up parsing, but it is rather outdated in terms of what people

I've always contemplated doing this, but as I understand it, public domain isn't recognized internationally, and therefore anything you release to the public domain can later be copyrighted by someone else in those non-recognizing regions.

Also to add to #3: The NDB C++ API doesn't use raw SQL queries either (it uses a lower lever of abstraction for accessing the database), so it avoids the overhead of having to parse SQL queries. Most production systems and third-party libra

Wow, this is really amazing. Can you give us a rundown on how it works? Does it do all of its own parsing, and then dump a more well-formed version into the iframe, or does it just send the text verbatim to the iframe and utilize the browse

I agree. The math and theory behind RSA is correct, it's only certain implementations on the web that are lacking.

There is truth to the assertion that sites that run on user contributions must be pruned. Reddit has strived hard to make the community self-policing. The Reddit methodology has always been that users have to be the gardeners. It's more sca

All of the "4096" results have exponentiation as left-associative, despite the common conventions that exponentiation is right associative. Seeing the example really makes me wonder why that convention exists, and also makes me ponder wheth

These are very welcome improvements, especially in the area of adding a parsable semantic structure to pages. My personal favourite semantic additions are: 1. The itemtype, itemscope and itemprop attributes, for completely unrestricted noun

I think the primary disadvantage of an addition like this is the extra complexity is shifted almost completely into parsing. This means that accidental suffixes on the end of literals always have to be treated as custom literals by the pars

Or, if you want Guy Steele's opinion, every call is essentially a goto and should be treated as such. Thinking about function calls as graph traversal instead of a call stack allows you to do any call without any unnecessary variables. htt
