Well, now that it's vegan... (Though that goes to the age-old question of whether human is vegan or not :) )

Hopefully this isn't followed by yet another "hey, six+ more weeks for your order placed in June" email like the last couple of announcements were. It all sounds wonderful, but I'd like the chance to actually try it.

This was my take as well. As many good points as there are in the article (and there are many), the whole thing is "No True Scotsman" itself. Any attempt to fuse aspects of other languages or paradigms with OOP in order to mitigat

As a software automation engineer, I've made this argument in the past with regards to UI/systems test code bases. Heavy modularization makes a ton of sense with utility code made to create and tear down fixtures, as well as with

I have no insight on internal culture, but Apple does have formal QA teams. I'd be surprised if they weren't testing. People underestimate how hard it can be to catch problems that only manifest on a particular network setup, etc.

Sounds like my upgrade path. I went launch Kindle (for $400!) to Kindle 3 (before it was renamed to Kindle Keyboard) and then to the Paperwhite. For me, the reasons went: "new," "screen contrast + first-party lighted case,&qu

I don't think this is known, but I'll be surprised if it has more capability in that regard than the PW. I can't see the PW light at minimum in a room with any lighting, though, and can't read the PW without lighting.

I have a Paperwhite. It's not that bad--still less effort than turning a real page, and the screen doesn't show fingerprints much. Still, this will be better.

Though obviously it's not the reason it was adopted, it is kind of neat that using a dead language for scientific terms disambiguates them cleanly for the purposes of searching. Any live language would have accidental matches (even quo

Unless you fly or are muting HVAC or server room sounds, I haven't found that noise-cancelling headphones are superior to isolating (close-backed circumaurals or in-ear monitors). NC doesn't work well for voices, and the extra exp

While well-written, his conclusions on a number of headphones (particularly the extreme love for the AKG K551s) seem a little idiosyncratic. It's worth cross-referencing any of his suggestions with head-fi or other review sources.

Halperin's The First Immortal is damned near a written infomercial for Alcor, but is still a pretty interesting book in its own right in terms of exploring various cryonics scenarios. Edit: looks like it's available freely online:

Shamelessly bikeshedding, since I can't use the app until you have an OS X version, but would be nice if it could query my router via SNMP to get whole-network usage. That's what I currently do via NetUse, but this looks quite a b

As far as culture goes, I'd like to see mass archiving. I'm unclear whether what the Library of Congress does suffices, at least for the US, but a copy of everything should exist somewhere . As far as personal access goes, I hear

California is at-will, but with a good-faith rider. Arbitrarily or maliciously firing someone would probably be grounds for a dispute. I don't think that dispute would be successful in this case, where some demonstrably poor judgment with p
