A thread belongs to a process so, for example, whatever the "second" thread does is the same as what a process does. POSIX defines a few mechanisms for IPC. What is optional and what is mandatory in pthreads doesn't concern m

Pthreads are part of the POSIX standard. Hence the "p". Then there is pipe() and probably some more similar ones.

RHEL is not the same as Fedora and RHEL devs are not the same as Fedoras. From what i seen in the last few years, at least. That they are employed by the same company, yes.

I'm no truck expert but that shouldn't be that big of a problem. There are already power cables between trucks and trailers [1]. Thing is to just make a thicker one. Weight is also no problem as 500kg of batteries is nothing compa

I'm good with olimpic gold medalists in rowing and i think there isn't much politics there. Especially between teams. It wouldn't even make sense to involve politics in sports (yes i know football, basketball and such..) as t

I don't want to register to download the code, so take my comment as such. I wrote an (actually) fast memcpy() in assembly. There are more problems then just different size-s. Hardest problem is actually alignment, particularly 1 byte

Most used, and thus cheapest, transistor BC 639 is 100MHz (or 50MHz, i had a beer). Cheapest MOSFET is much faster then that. The Megaprocesor is 20kHz and the creator clearly states that it is for educational purposes. While on that topic;

Many people build computers of varying complexities, but they usually use IC-s from the 4000 and 7400 series. These IC-s are mostly simple things, like NAND gates, adders and such (there are some complex ones). Making discrete equivalents o

On a grander scale one could put solar plants in the sahara and use their power to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. To transport energy, that is.

>Most OS linkers already do efficient loading of only the relevant portions of a shared library since they typically mmap the library file. a page is 4kB (on x86 at least). a function is typically, what, 60 bytes ? 120 maybe ? 240 ?

statically linking to properly(!) made libraries will only maybe increase storage space it will decrease memory usage (as most loaders load the whole library, even when just one function is used) more things to upgrade, yes more bandwidth,
