What is the reason that Intel would allow speculative instructions to bypass the supervisor bit and access arbitrary memory? That seems the root cause for Meltdown. Is it that the current privilege level could be different between what it i

I'd like to know the answer to this as well. I've been wondering about the same scenario in the context of 2-phase commit, which is what this is, I believe

Some examples of poor quality of code? This has not been my experience. I've gone through the code base a couple of times for my own education and to do some small patches, and I found it clean and easy to read.

Nice that the new interval completely lies within the old. I remember from college that there was an important physical constant where a new, more precise measurement was pretty far outside the range of the previous best measurement. I don&

Anyone knows how to get OpenCL working on Linux using the open source AMDGPU driver (not the AMDGPU-PRO driver which is their proprietary driver)?

How does this compare against funktion ( https://funktion.fabric8.io/ )? Both projects seem very similar.

Not sure why you are getting downvoted. I am a Tesla bull, but you are correct. I'm very interested about the increase in AP. Hope the conf call will get into that.

Would this mean that there's a lot more dark matter in the universe than we previously thought? And consequently that we may escape a terrible heat death but instead get some real action near the end?

I believe that the enabling technology for SEV (SME - Secure Memory Encryption) would indeed protect against cold boot attacks. The SME keys are not stored in memory themselves and therefore once the CPU reboots and the SME keys are erased,

SEV (Secure Encrypted Virtualization, [1]) is a hugely interesting feature that will be available with Zen. Once it's mature and perfected, it would allow you to securely run a VM in the cloud that is protected against someone who cont

Doing some back of the envelope calculations.. Hash rate is about 1,200 PH now. The most efficient ASIC miner today is the AntMiner S7 [1], which does 4.86 TH at 1.21 KW. This gives us a power consumption of the entire Bitcoin network of at

I'm really hoping the syscall emulation will give us fork() and an efficient poll() . Lack of these has been the most significant Windows porting issue for me (on Python, which otherwise has great platform abstraction).

My view/hope is that at least for basic application level services, that the abstraction is going to be provided by containers and their orchestration platforms (e.g. Docker/Kube). It can credibly give you scaling, data persistenc

Agreed about the abstraction. In my view it works best when the abstraction is related to higher-level concepts that are implemented on top of the different clouds, like e.g. self-service, events and automation. This is where ManageIQ focus
