There was a number of similar active threads over the years, some great ideas in them: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7094402 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8107588 https://news.ycom

One I see regularly is not testing code or writing tests that are useless. To some extent, it's related to the mistakes mentioned in the post: messy code is hard to test.

Why do you ask for a permission? If I am working on a task and code got a bit too messy for my liking, I'd simply refactor, it's simply part of the task. Working != complete. If something goes wrong, it will be easy to revert give

The whole 10X thing (which sounds like some superhero myth or whatever) is much simpler then we sometimes want to believe. The work we do is not that unique. While often it will not be identical, but will share a lot in common. We learn wha

Agree. Other, somewhat similar problem, is that it is actually hard to buy bitcoin. I don't feel like sending a copy of my ID to some exchange (which can be gone in a year or two). I wouldn't mind sending it to some established fi

We should aim to keep the mass media out of our perception, because all it cares about is generating clicks :) They don't care about plain simple failures, but they are large part of startup life. One day they will move on from startup

Welcome to selection bias. A lot of startups completely fail but that's not interesting, "<a startup you never heard of> has failed" won't get many clicks on TechCrunch. People share stories about how they 'fa

Agreed. When you open the editor page, it's not obvious that there are more tools you can use. Also, there's very low contrast between the theme being edited and the tools bar on the right, it's quite confusing.

That's absolutely true. Giving a person who has proved his/her value the 15% pay raise they want or something similar is so much cheaper than letting them go, hiring someone new, training them, and hoping they will work out. Unfor
