Yeah tell that to my teaching assistant wife who works at a Lincolnshire village primary school and is now 'always on' to the whims of the go getting headmistress 24/7. She feels she can't practically ignore out of hours

Banks explicitly talked about utopia's being too boring to write about and that the friction on the edges of Culture and the rest of the universe provided the necessary drama for a novel. I'm finding all the Consider Phlebas hate

I’m asking for ownership to be disrupted. It’s insane we all have our own and they have such low utilisation. They are almost always stationary parked somewhere when privately owned.

What Apple does with the iPhone 'closed ecosystem' seems very relevant for owners of Samsung handsets... Decisions made in their 'closed'ecosystems leak in the rest of the world.

Not true in Nottinghamshire near where I live. There are several largish permanent average speed camera systems unrelated to roadworks eg A6097. Such that, when I was looking for a new car, cruise control or a speed limiter was a must.

You’ve forgotten about the Homepod. That sounds pretty amazing for it’s size and price. (I work in the music industry and have an unhealthy interest in monitors / headphones)

Hmm perhaps ‘rewarding’ wasn’t the right word. Satisfying is closer. I wasn’t looking for a ‘the baddie got caught and everyone lived happily ever after’ per se. I thought the pacing / editing was unsatisfying towards the end, I infer

In the UK, if you have a test, you are required to quarantine until you get the results. Is it not the case elsewhere??

The best works of art leave space between the ideas, words and images. Blade Runner is a bit more like a poem than a novel and that's why it works so well and why it was rejected so soundly at the time of release. Sometime it takes a w

Bandcamp experience for an artist is good but the backend could sure do with a spruce, particularly the reporting and the API for merch fulfilment. That said anything pushing against the chilling affect of Spotify is a win.

I’m not sure I’d describe it as out of character. Phonetically styled narrative from characters pops up in several Banks novels. I’d argue the The Barbarian’s Scottish dialect in The Bridge was a precursor to Bascule. There are also smatter
