I also had the initial impression that the article is misleading, but later on the author made the point that the C compiler is doing significant work to reorder / parallelize / optimize the code. I agree that x86/x64 is not

RSS feeds that provide a paragraph (or less) and a "more..." link make me unsubscribe immediately. I'm most often reading my feeds when offline or on the go, and not having the full article makes it worthless.

Don't forget that these 90 days are also 90 more days where this vulnerability can be exploited by attackers. Microsoft has set up a patch delivery infrastructure that's pretty effective and comparably fast by industry standards,

Disable UPnP in the router settings. In theory, that should close the hole. Disable remote maintenace / web access. Many router web UIs have exploitable flaws that can be used to bypass password authentication. Ensure that you are alwa

The full Akamai report linked from the article also outlines that this technique (accessing UPnP from the Internet while pretending to come from the LAN) allows to expose the router's LAN services (e.g. web interface) on the Internet.

Ejabberd and prosody are the most widely used ones. For prosody you should also consider using the community prosody-modules repository that adds many modern features. I'm running prosody 0.10 on a server for my app users, with multipl

It never was perfectly valid . That blog post is incorrect, and network engineers are perfectly fine arguing against that practice. The IP address 1.1.1.1 was reserved by APNIC and now belongs to the APNIC and Cloudflare research project.

As said in other comments there is no obligation for any company to store personal information, and without such information the request can be easily dealt with by a simple form letter. Companies storing and losing PII have a huge negative

In theory, we can. However, building a well-working multi-platform chat client is a significant task, imagine a 5-10 person team working over a year, plus the long-term maintenance support. IRC might not be the right protocol for that, beca

It's perfectly fine to make money, nobody argues that. The point is that Open Source and making money don't contradict each other. Examples: - Conversations, the Android XMPP client, is GPL and sold on Google Play: https:/&#

There is some serious work on making federated XMPP work together with APNS. The iOS client developer needs to run a proxy server that will accept notifications from XMPP servers and wake up the client via APNS (this is required by how APNS

As a user, I was very disappointed to see that the gateways must be enabled by the project owner, not by the users themselves. In the end none of the Slack groups I've participated in allowed me to connect via IRC/XMPP.

The major hurdle in this situation is that most XMPP clients are developed by FOSS volunteers or small underfunded developer groups. There is no VC monetization concept to be built on top of federated messaging, and there is no benevolent b
