> Let's say I have $10,000 in a Wells Fargo checking account. Tomorrow, they add support for Stellar. How does that play out in the protocol? Should I trust them for the full $10k in my Stellar client? Some intermediate value? Why?

Yep, that's right — certainly for the most popular currencies/issuers, in any case. I wouldn't be surprised if there's always a long tail of lower-traffic currencies which lean heavily on exchanging to stellar.

Note that Everett was paying Mechanical Turks to auth their legitimate/existing Facebook accounts — not to go and fill out a bunch of captchas to farm new ones.

Mechanical Turk, I believe: https://twitter.com/thegdb/status/495656012343300097 . There's a decent exchange rate: more than a dollar per account.

Yeah, the plan is definitely to expand beyond Facebook in the medium term. It was just the fastest (though an imperfect) way of getting started and getting stellars into the hands of as many people as possible, as quickly as possible. See a

Nah, just that the stellarfoundation bot checks that you're Facebook-authed before sending over your 1,000 stellar bonus.

No, that doesn't actually work (just double checked to make sure). Would be a clever hole though :).

The person here is not affiliated with the project. (That @stellar.org is their federated payment address, which is assigned to anyone who signs up for an account.) We've talked with the user, and it sounds like this is not in fact a c

Here's a related (though not completely equivalent) thread on Reddit that I think does a good job of framing this topic: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2c910w/stripe_gets_... .

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your objection, but you can actually run your own stellard, which is a first-class member of the network: https://github.com/stellar/stellard . The Foundation runs a public stellard for c

Well, the main design is that people will use this for real-world currencies. If people are interested in starting to issue fake ones with arbitrary names, it's probably worth raising with the developers! They're hanging around in

Ah, so certainly malicious JS code could misbehave and gain access to your account. But this is true also for someone publishing a desktop client — in practice, people aren't going to check the code going into each release, any more th

You can indeed issue fake currencies. The only technical limitation is that currencies are (as it stands) limited to 3 letters. Note that your friend would only be able to trade your fake currency to someone who is willing to trust you, so

Stellar is built to be a bridge from the physical one to the digital one. There certainly are tradeoffs there, particularly that the kinds of trust relationships needed for your life today have direct analogues. But, as I mentioned in http
