Fascinating. Is that Salon article even remotely accessible to a non-Russian (speaker)? It makes fairly subtle references to writers non-Russians have likely never heard of (the brothers Strugatskie, Lev Gumilev, Griboedov), and so builds a

Isn't there some rule that a domain must be registered with a real name, or it doesn't really belong to you (and all anonymization services for domains are therefore suspect)?

Could this have been the intent all along? Make a decent first cut of the code, generate a ton of publicity, then generate a ton more publicity — note the vagueness about why exactly they shut down — then leave the code in reasonable work

In honor of military hardware week on HN — some naval technology instead of aviation, though. I'm pretty sure a motivated non-state actor can arrange to buy a few of these. A surface ship is a sitting duck against something so fast.

That sound you hear is the collective gasp of iOS developers who just learned they have to support another display resolution (and the second sound is the unsympathetic snort of Android people).

Listening to de Lucia's Entre dos Aguas album now — stunning work. Meta: delighted to see a story about such a wonderful musician on HN. Sad that it's an obituary.

The ICU Java libraries, though annoying to use, provide interoperability with ICU C libraries. ICU has the only correct implementation of time zone support for C that I have found. Though it's been a while since I researched the issue,

You completely misquoted the replies. ESR was NOT replying to the OP, he was agreeing with a rebuttal of the OP's argument.

A slight exaggeration, but yes, that's quite close to the OP's argument (Git is GPLv2 and will not change; Hg is GPLv2+ and therefore closer in spirit to GNU's goals and a GNU project like Emacs should favor GPLv3 and AGPL to

While the fine itself was negligible, a moving violation significantly increases insurance premiums. A lawyer who specializes in fighting traffic tickets is far cheaper than overpaying for insurance for the next decade.
