I deployed one project by creating a completely separate deployment area, /opt/projectname, which contains a separate tree, /opt/projectname/sw, where I manually compiled all the dependencies: ./configure --prefix=/opt/projectname/sw. I ins

Two questions for people who tried this feature: 1. Does this support syncing multiple Google Calendars? Last I checked, if you have multiple calendars, you had to set up multiple CalDAV connections. CalDAV itself supports multiple calendar

Agreed on both points, although 'git mv' is optional. As long as the old file is 'git rm'ed and the new file is 'git add'ed in the same commit, git detects the rename quite reliably.

I thought github does allow private repositories on the free plan? Maybe something changed, but it used to allow a private repository, but you couldn't share it with anyone.

If you really just want a minimal source control system, Git does the trick well enough. I don't think you need anything more than 'git init' (make a fresh project), 'git commit -a' (commit all new changes except for deleted or renamed file

The new version of the SDK is now available for download. 1.56GB. I've never quite figured out why the SDK has to include a whole new version of the entire Apple developer toolchain with it, but there you have it.

Presidential email is a tough technical problem. The audit trail piece is easy enough, but there's also the problem of keeping the email account clean and secure. Somehow, it needs to provide relatively unfettered access to the president fr

Tokyo Cabinet looks intriguing. One major limitation of Berkeley DB is that it cannot reliably store its files on a network filesystem (NFS or CIFS or what have you) because of unreliable POSIX semantics. It's a tough problem, but any idea

I must be one of those people Linus wants to kick. Too bad for him. I love taking a break from staring at a screen, and I feel way better, physically and mentally, after a good run or a good rowing session. My lower back starts to feel stif

I remember checking InTrade sometime in March, and it showed something like a 70%-chance that Hillary Clinton will be president. Guess that the gamblers become more accurate as time to election approaches zero.

Are you sure? I don't have the numbers handy, but I dimly remember that, in around 1998-1999, the Alpha 21264 ran circles around Intel and AMD CPUs of the same era, in integer and especially floating-point performance. I'm not talking about

I thought the article said the engine doesn't have a casing, but in the picture, it does. Kind of makes sense though: if I understand jet engines, they must compress air, so the air must be compressed in some kind of container. This design

Don't know if this will do what you want, but these two reader macros add syntactic sugar for Common Lisp's aref and gethash forms. You should put these definitions in an eval-when. Disclaimer: I haven't used these in a while (not programmi

Since the author of this post is Jeremy Allison, a major Samba contributor, I also suggest reading the Samba code. I've been working with it, and have found it clean and well-structured. A great example of how to write a networked filesyste
