I'm curious about your experience in the HFT field. Have you ever considered starting your own trading shop? If this isn't something you feel comfortable discussing in public, feel free to email me — address in my profile. I don't have a jo

In both languages, the use of a variable is almost always preceded by a binding of that variable to a symbol or var using the "let" form. This accounts for most uses of variables, and attempting to access a misspelled variable will flag an

The author's second and third points are either disingenuousness or ignorance. * The omission of variable declarations has nothing to do with dynamic typing. Some dynamically-typed languages certainly do this (Ruby and Python). Some dynamic

Shared history in zsh is essential to my workflow. I also keep many terminals open, and while I do separate them by task, I often just pick one which happens to be in the right directory and start typing away. I always search through histor

If it can sync .vimrc, could it also sync a directory over iCloud? That would be amazing. I'm a die-hard Emacs user, but this would be enough for me to use Vim for at least some work.

This applies to other things, in my experience. In making a drawing, for example, a mental dialog can go one of two ways: - "this is wrong", "that line can't be right", "the shadow doesn't work" or - "how does this line relate to this other

A good stove really does help by producing a greater range and diameter of heat more consistently. I think people do get attached to good stoves. At the end of the day, though, people are most possessive of chef's knives.

It's worth pointing out that JavaScript 1.7 resolves this mess by introducing block scoping using the "let" keyword. It works just like it does in Scheme, Common Lisp, and Clojure (i.e., correctly). Not supported in anything except Firefox,

Yes. Corollary: if you (must) work at a company that has an "IT" department, try to find out where the programmers on the profit center (the "business") side work. Odds are, their jobs are way more interesting and pay way better.
