Humans find symmetry pretty, and fortunately experience has taught us time and again that often the more symmetric solution is the better one.

The bidding process was like any other contract, anyone could submit a response to the RFP, everyone was shocked IBM didn't get it.

I believe the x87 uses 80 bits internally, but it only runs operations until it has sufficient precision to do the rounding (which is hard to do in general, see: http://perso.ens-lyon.fr/jean-michel.muller/Intro-to-TMD.

If you want a guarantee, use something like gmp that'll do them in software.

> Collections in languages that enforce immutability are optimized for these kind of operations so they are very efficient and there is no penalty for immutability. That's just good old fashioned wrong.

I think infiniswap is pretty neat technically. The real solution to this problem is to design your application so it doesn't swap though.

He said the perfect squares are the only ones with an odd number of factors, which doesn't make sense to me. 16 for example has 4, 25 has 5, 36 has 4 again, so I'm not sure what he was getting at.

ERP is the effective power in the mainlobe, so an omni antenna and a highly direction one with the same ERP will sound as loud to their intended listener. Those frequencies are used for terrestrial microwave backhauls. They're almos

C++ has perfect move semantics since C++11, and you can always use a reference to pass things around if you need.

Why would you use boost for that? The only two graph things there are determining if it's acyclic and depth-first traversal, both of which are pretty easy to just write.

It sucks for slicing though. In python (zero based), you can use 0:n to slice the entire array with a half-open interval. With one based, you have to either have a closed interval, so 1:n is the whole array (which sucks because what does

You can "label" by just agreeing that zero is in the set of counting numbers and labelling with those. Just because it's zero based doesn't mean it has to be an offset.

One-based is just wrong. I've never been in a zero-based language and wanted one-based, but I go the other way all the time. Arrays beginning with zero are isomorphic to the ring formed by Z modulo N, and you can use a bit mask for m
