Academics typically use citation count and popularity as a rough proxy for validation. It's certainly not perfect, but it is something that people think about. Semantic Scholar in particular is doing great work in this area, making it

NeurIPS leadership doesn’t think hallucinated references are necessarily disqualifying; see the full article from Fortune for a statement from them: https://archive.ph/yizHN > When reached for comment, the NeurIPS board

I was getting completely AI-generated reviews for a WACV publication back in 2024. The area chairs are so overworked that authors don't have much recourse, which sucks but is also really hard to handle unless more volunteers step up to

One thing I like about JPEG-XL is that it supports all kinds of weird image formats. For example, I used to work with depth data a lot, which is best expressed as monochrome 16-bit floating point images. Previously, TIFF was the only format

I regularly work with images larger than 65,535px per side. WEBP can only do 16,383px per side and the AVIF spec can technically do 65,535, but encoders tap out far before then. Even TIFF uses 32-bit file offsets so can't go above 4GB

For folks curious about the supported language subset, here's a summary: - Modules aren't implemented yet, but are high on the list - Continuation-based control flow isn't supported yet, including break and promises. Tail cal

Is there any shared lineage between this and Whalesong, a previous Racket->JS compiler? Of course both projects have the same maintainer if I recall, Jens Axel Søgaard is a rockstar :)

What about API calls? What about GitHub trusted CI deploys? One frustrating thing about these solutions is that they’re great to prevent Claude from breaking a machine, but there’s no pervasive sandbox for third party services

You get that that’s worse though, right? Windows renders the window once at a single DIP resolution. The other side of the window appears either too big or too small. MacOS renders the window once at a single DIP resolution. Then, the other

Google refused to merge JpegXL as a strategy play to promote AVIF, which was in use by other teams (i think Photos?). Internally, chrome engineers were supportive of jxl but were overridden by leadership.

Chatterbox TTS does this in “voice cloning” mode but you have to implement the streaming part yourself. There are two inputs: audio A (“style”) and B (“content”). The timbre is taken from A, and the content, pronunciation, prosody, accent,

On iOS at least, an app can quickly ask for a star rating via a modal dialog. No review necessary. Thanks to dark patterns, users sometimes think it's asking them to rate their previous experience, or the podcast they're listening

This is the key. It’s not that 2026 is the year of the Linux desktop, but rather 2026 is very much not the year of the Windows desktop. Bazzite is rough in the way that all distributions are, but I imagine Windows 11 is rougher.
