Correct, GPUs dominate the flops-per-watt charts. IBM's Blue Gene systems were also pretty good in this regard but that product line is now a dead end.

O.K. fucking major rant below. Disclaimer I worked for an vendor selling large quantities pretty much anything in the HPC space at the time KNC came to market and I now work for a different (larger) HPC vendor. When I say "Larrabee

Bryan Cantrill expresses this[1] in a manner I certainly agree with. Software that is designed/ intended to be reliable should not go through large periods of instability only to be written off as "prepubescence". [1] http:&#

Changing the base system compiler is something that's not going to be done lightly. This post form openbsd-misc spells out why. http://marc.info/?l=openbsd-misc&m=137530560232232

The 5.9 release was early this year. Having 6.0 early actually fits the usual 6 month cadence.

I don't see this showing up in consumer parts soon. It seems Nvidia can squeeze out GDDR5(X) outside of the HPC space for this generation. Which is good for cost but also reduces the risk in terms of reliability of throwing lots of new

Firstly glad to see these reported and fixed. Secondly how many of these were remotely exploitable? Yes OpenBSD is limited in it's exposure with the "base system", but it seems like few of these pose as "holes" for

This reminded me of BetrFS presented at FAST 15. It looks like there's a more up to date presentation online[1] where the delete performance issues have been fixed. [1] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBt5NuNsoII

I've got a lot of love for OpenBSD but I can understand people wanting to use FreeBSD for things like ZFS and dtrace. However for those seeking to use said features personally I would recommend looking at an illumos distro.

Whilst touched on in the linked article but not mentioned is that the codes for the Gordon Bell runs are in the 30-40 petaflop range of sustained application performance. That's not too shabby. According to TOP500 author Jack Donga
