Good point. Except for games or kids apps, the ui should get out of the way and have no personality. It should have some identity though, so we can tell apps apart, but a logo and a color scheme is enough usually.

Resolution and all other superficial realism measures do not add anything to the immersion capacity of movies or games. Just take any black and white Hitchcock, and tell me you are not immersed in the story. But what can be further

Well I don't think I said I'd purposefully give such a killer switch to an alien race, I just said we don't know. We are all aware of the reasons to be pessimist, because of all the books and movies, but there are reasons to be opti

You don't know. Alien could be of a different scale, ant or mountain sized, and then most likely wouldn't even notice or mind our presence.

The strong assumption here is that the is no divide between intelligent and non intelligent life forms. I don't think it is the only view. I'd rather compare alien encounter with something like Marco Polo going to China: he didn't

What is nice with alien is that we really don't know. So the sentence above tells much more about your pessimism than about aliens.

Genuine question: all those comments focusing on Bellard's humble character, do they refer in negative to some hype developers, brogrammers, those who use only the latest fashionable tools, write blogs and rants and books?

The kids want what we make them want, on tv and elsewhere. There is a general trend toward collectibles away from diy, confirmed by someone working in retail. That's very sad and probably harmful in long term for all the society: co

Other answers are trying to trick the machine, while the obvious and safe fix is to serve plain html. Just like HN by the way, which is the only bearable site from China on a 3g connection.

Some of the many mistakes I have made are that of being " lazy" and instead of creating some tables and some schema structure and all the related code I just serialized the stuff and stored it as a string in the database. A few month

"The trends don't lie" Wah. And you do not even seem to be ironic. Trends always lie, there is always a next thing that will take the opposite direction, in philosophy, in science, and particularly so in computing stuff.

Sorry but no. We are used to boxes surrounding actionable fields where we can type in content. Here your pseudo-fields is half editable, half not editable, which is weird. The "delimiting an active field" purpose of the visible box is broke

So instead of a very simple and straightforward html tag you propose a full js module and animations and so on? And all this just to remove an important cue from the sight of your users?

I am reminded of the discussion we had with colleagues about Markdown versus RestructuredText. On Markdown side, you have sexy but ill-defined grammar, and on RST you have a slightly less nice-looking guy with a much better defined grammar,
