Steven Pinker basically exists to tell rich people everything is fine and getting better actually via curated statistics. I mean hey did ya hear? Scurvy cases have dropped substantially! The future is amazing. I wouldn’t pay attention to an

I think it's a bit more subtle than this. Taking ensemble averages is itself a gesture of throwing information away, so yes, you do now have classical uncertainty that now may be represented by a density matrix. I think what I take iss

Yup. This is the one reason my lab keeps an LPKF purpose built circuit board mill around. Rogers laminate is crucial for RF work.

Not OP, but I've had luck making PCBs on my Taig mill. Might want to choose something with ballscrews or at least preloaded nuts or potentially a belt drive. PCBs hate backlash, but don't constitute a high load.

Volkan Sahin, as far as I can tell, is one of the few people to truly master printing from a high end inkjet cartridge as a hobbyist. Really really impressive work.

Well meaning? What does that mean? Like intent? You could not possibly read anything but malintent from Dale’s writing.

Yeah I mean that’s still fine. The entanglement between system and field never persists since the field is taken to be measured immediately. The systems are only non-separable as long as they’re entangled. See the notes by Steck on the deri

The whole system does. The trick is you never trace anything out. You needn't. A spin interacting with a flying field is itself a pure system. It's just when you trace out the flying field that the system may become impure. If the

The system is separable after you measure out your ancilla. Imagine a stream of qubits B_1, B_2, ... prepared in +X who interact weakly with qubit A prepared in +X. and are then strongly measured projectively. After the brief interaction, A

This is incorrect. See the stochastic schroedinger equation. A quantum system will stay pure under measurement as long as the measurement process is completely efficient.

It does not. The could be a continuum of universes... or something.

The system is being measured, collapses DO take time, but this is not news to people who study certain branches of quantum information. The experiment confirming it though is a breakthrough.

"it would be incorrect to say that the bit has a value of, say, 0.5 during the transition." In what sense? It has a <z>=0, meaning there's a statistically 50%/50% chance of measuring 1 or 0 but the system is in pri

A continuous jump means that the system travels coherently through the superposition of |0>+|1> through the jump, and other such a|0>+b|1> states for a^2+b^2=1. It isn't in 0, and then suddenly 1.

You treat them as separate things. Kinda. You have the measurement mechanism and you have the unitary evolution mechanism. There are varying degrees of sophistication for modeling the measurement mechanism, and there's ways to have uni
