Scientific apparatus is by definition “pre-engineering.” It’s low volume and generally designed by a few people with no BOM optimization. OTOH, everything that’s engineered is generally just EE or optics lab stuff that’s already high volume

Then tax the money out of circulation. The solution is obvious. You might start with the segment of the population who hasn’t been paying their taxes.

I am a source. I’m a practicing physicist, and have been cited numerous times. I’ve not passively dismissed anyone’s work, I’m actively dismissing it for good reasons according to my professional judgement.

No, that’s a completely healthy level of respect. Maybe you just don’t value your eyes or understand lasers. I’m sorry to tell you that you have to live in a world where other people do value their eyes.

Styropyro is one of the most universally reviled science YouTube channels among practicing scientists. Beyond doing really dumb shit, he runs an absolute cesspool of a discord server overrun with 14 year olds who build very dangerous laser

Yeah TopoR is really impressive. The thing is, I don't find that the hard problem is just the routing -- it's the combination of the placement and the routing. I find that I place with some idea of how I want to do the routing. I

I love KiCad. At this point the only thing missing for me is repeated subcircuit layout in PCB. There’s a nice plug-in for it but I really want to see it integrated. I’m sure it’s coming soon.

You shouldn’t use autorouters at all. They have essentially no reasonable use.

This, this right here is the attitude I’m referring to. From now on all I’m gonna say is “GitHub or GTFO.” Show me all this lisp you’re writing, or at least tell me the fantastic product you’ve built with it or GTFO.

Why does it feel like there’s more prose about lisp being written than lisp code? I swear there’s like 15 people writing Common Lisp — Nikodemus, Shirakumo, Stylewarning, Christian Schafmeister, Borodust, the ITA folks, and maybe 2 startups

There have been superpositions maintained on the scale of a meter using these fountain experiments. I think the chip traps, SC qubit chips, dot chips, etc… will be much smaller than this.

I really like Lisp. I also have the impression that the people talking about Lisp a lot are writing far more prose than code. There are maybe 10 exceptions to this, those being Nikodemus, Shirakumo, Stylewarning, Christian Schafmeister, Bor

Bit chicken and egg -- nobody uses it because nobody writes it. I think once in a while a small team of aficionados will write a project in it and then eventually rewrite as it becomes evident that it's too hard to hire for. At least t

Fast is unimportant -- latency and determinism are paramount. It's true that GC'ed languages have been used in realtime applications but it's always an uphill battle. There are also low-latency GCs that are being rolled out.

it's not that much harder to write software than it is to clean a toilet -- and it's WAY harder being a roofer than writing software. There is little to no coupling between skill, difficulty, and pay.
