Java after JDK 17 is a completely different language, almost like the difference between Javascript pre-ES6. It got: - Pattern matching - Sealed types - Records (immutable, succinct data-classes) - Multiline strings Among other things. It&#

It does allow for unsafe pointer math, I have some examples here where I've ported io_uring to use native Java Foreign Memory API with no external headers/bindings: https://github.com/GavinRay97/panama-liburin

Are there any exclusive features that Bun has, that are particularly well-suited for writing databases or other low-latency, high-throughput I/O applications? Seems like being written in Zig might give it a good foot in the door here.

ScyllaDB is, ironically, maybe one of the worst examples the author could have come up with for "abstraction" in the article. If folks aren't familiar with their work/internal tech, go check out some of their repos like

What terrible news to wake up to. I hate when they say "passed away" -- here was a man in his prime, just the other week sharing knowledge of compilers at a conference, taken from the world. Chris helped me frequently on the Graal

I dunno, every language/tech thing has a Discord nowadays (mostly). If I need help with something I usually go there first. Even for niche things like D language, the Discord is the place to go. I learned Scala 3 and D mostly through t

Fair point and great anecdote. Though when I think "interference of my 'let-live'" my mind jumps to things a decent bit worse than family who make some well-meaning remarks that sting. I don't want to turn this into

"Live and let live" is based on the hope that everyone adopts that philosophy. Obviously with humans this can never be the case, until we modify our own brains/neurochemistry. IMO, adhere to it so long as the "Non-aggres

I'm just commenting to agree with the "D got language design right, Marketing worse than Rust". I cry every time =( Don't have anything against Rust though, except the syntax can be a bit obtuse.

I did email the BPF kernel mailing list, they directed me to two user-land (user-space?) implementations of BPF but didn't say much about what "user-space BPF" meant. Didn't want to clutter up the mailing list with noise
