Back when I took an interest in malware analysis I got the book Practical Malware Analysis and must say it really was brilliant. Analyzing malware requires knowledge of a range of different technical areas, and the book introduced them well

WPF, (the modern way to create .NET windows client UIs) and Silverlight/Windows Phone 7 development is done using XAML at the minute so those developers would have the best head start. Note, it was probably Visual Studio 2011 you saw, 2010
