It's absurdly simple to email writers directly. Unless you need some sort of direct access to traditional media, PR firms don't make sense for a startup.

This is actually not true. Previous bubbles were surprising to most everyone, because the general accepted reality was that of a "New Economy." The previous tech bubble did not become widely known as a bubble until it popped.

Snapfish and all other photo sharing sites lack one fundamental thing that any photo enthusiast will identify immediately as one of the biggest problems. Image de-duplication. Snapjoy has the only image de-duplicating algorithm that I've se

All founders by definition must figure out stuff for their own and take risk. This invalidates your assertion that "YC is not for founders who like to go their own route." YC is for founders.

This is a critical observation. By default, for most people who have been through the modern school system, and/or worked for companies -- they're used to covering their ass and sounding smart. The market doesn't care about cover-your-ass -

It is difficult to determine how substantiated a valuation is without access to the books of a company and a sense for its future revenue and cashflows. Being a private company, these books are not publicly available. Given that, it would m

I was early at Palantir (employee #10). Trust me, the founders assumed way more risk than I did when I joined. I didn't even quite understand that fact until I myself started a company. If you know the Airbnb story, you'll know these guys w

At YC startups especially, it is quite common. Founders often take the minimum amount of money necessary to survive. But they will often pay market (especially after Series A) or near-market to their hires, plus equity.
