This is a great idea. I've actually wanted to do this before. Browser plugins are one fundamental tool in the war against web tyranny. For instance, crawling Craigslist could be accomplished this way in a way that was unblockable. This need

The lottery is one where everyone pretty much has equal odds of success. Individuals, especially in startups, tend not to have equal odds at all. It's a game of skill, not luck.

Makes sense. We've been careful to stick to RESTful endpoints so it should be a matter of creating API keys and documenting it properly.

Thanks for this feedback and for your support. I really appreciate it. I'll try to incorporate all of this into the site today.

We were thinking if someone pays for a year, we'll just keep the content online forever. Paul Buchheit actually gave us that idea.

Google Reader is a social service that was free. Google is a company that makes a lot of money, just not on that thing. The product was added to a "projects to cut" list in an email by a Google executive, and the next day it was axed. Twitt

No, this is a new codebase from scratch. There's zero IP and zero users from Posterous. It's also not a startup -- we are exploring ways to turn it into a non-profit.

I left Posterous over a year before the acquisition due to a difference in opinion over strategy. Brett had also left before. I didn't agree with where my cofounder wanted to go with it. I was bummed to see it didn't work out as we had hope

We'll write exporters the way Posterous did. Ideally we would work out some way where exporters wouldn't be necessary, e.g. the data appears in some perfect for elsewhere, intact, with the same URL.

We're rewriting Posterous from scratch, so it's a brand new codebase. If you liked Posterous (pre-Spaces), I think you'll like Posthaven. I was the main designer behind the earlier Posterous and also wrote much of the software too. It's eas

Your suggestions are absolutely valid, and I appreciate them Jaisen. Your efforts with the Open Photo Project are noble, and I respect them a ton. Give us some time -- Posthaven was a vague idea just a few months ago. We are under the gun t

Note that we're not a startup. Our goals are to serve users and make software. If it made no money at all, I would still work on it.

If you've ever accidentally let a domain lapse, it's pretty clear using your own domain is not necessarily more durable. Unless of course we figure out some way to auto-renew the domain, which is a possibility.

I love Dalton and App.net and am a supporter myself. We certainly have a road ahead of us to show how we will make it to forever. For now, we're building software.

The reason why social media is valuable as an ad platform is because it actually is more measurable and more effective than straight-up Proctor & Gamble-style brand advertising that you see in magazines and on TV every single day. It's

Both 2 and 3 are certainly in the plans. How could we not have an API? And custom domains? Brett and I have discussed #1 and it's an option we want to keep on the table. First priority is to build and create a great hosted experience, howev

This is one of the first features we will be launching in the next two weeks: Posterous import. This is a high priority as I have years of data on there as well. We're putting the finishing touches on it as we speak.

No, VC funding was not the mistake. The mistake was mine as a founder for not charging for Posterous. This is why we will charge money this time.

We fixed one setting in our HAProxy that was causing an insane bottleneck. We'd been working on it for a while, but had no idea it would be launching today and should have been more prepared. Sorry about that. Please give us another shot.

Thanks for this note. It's very much great advice, and right now we're heads down coding. I've never started a foundation and I have much more reading to do -- but it sounds like the right way to codify our pledge more permanently.
