Looking at my girlfriend's gmail Inbox makes my eyes bleed, it's a mishmash of seemingly irrelevant email, lots of promos or facebook notifications more than half of which is unread. I sometimes find it hard to control myself not to "clean

My understanding is that this does not kill the app, merely removes it from the list.

Also there is a nice Ubuntu port available. It feels rather stable and more familiar than Angstrom, I recommend it. Of course you'll lose Cloud9 from the box.

It means you can get started right away. If you want to be more serious, sure, write stuff in C or whatever, it works fine, after all this is just a Linux machine (with a simple webserver running cloud9 on port 3000). Or just ssh into the b

From what I understand being drunk when going to sleep relaxes the muscles around your throat increasing your chance of apnea. The relaxed muscles around the throat means that the airway closes yielding a similar effect to choking (which is

You should be very cautious with this kind of self diagnostics. - What if you get a negative result (i.e. you're ok)? Are you just gonna live happily ever after, ignoring any symptoms of sleep deprivation since you have already ruled out ap

I was dead wrong on what the issue was, but the actual explanation does actually hint that that doing error-prone calculation (such as deserialization) to magically calculate a property is not a good idea. I haven't seen the .json property

I just started using requests and one of the first questions I asked myself was "Hey, why isnt't this a function rather than a property?" . I'm not that seasoned python developer but it feels wrong to me that you have to perform work in ord

I actually love that feature, allows me to find contacts and lesser used apps very quickly. Btw.: On phones that have hardware buttons (but no dedicated search button, like the European version of SGS2) you can open search by long pressing

To demonstrate my point, try writing the following into C.java: public class C { public int foo() { return 1; int b = 1 + 2; } } Then compile it (javac C.java). You will get the following: C.java:4: unreachable s

Just run the dex2jar tool on any android .apk and view the results in jd-gui. I've looked at a few apk's and weirdness like the one noted above is quite common. The code is being reverse engineered from a .smali file and the reverse enginee

It looks a lot like the output from an Android decompilation tool... which tends to return some weird stuff. That code segment would never compile (code immediately below a return/break/continue/etc. statement causes a compilation error).

This is a great idea. I'm an Android developer and every now and then I think "I must be doing this wrong somehow". A list like that helps building a mental database of best practices, good job!

It's posts like these that get me as a programmer worried. Arrogance tends to lead to bad things and the world can change at a pace greater than one can imagine (a good way for me to understand how swiftly things change is to ask myself: Co

This is off topic, but I have a SGS2 and was getting pretty tired of how the UI looked half-ICS and half-old after an ICS upgrade from Samsung (btw. OTA upgrade didn't work for me so I needed to resort to Samsung's Kies software which is am

I don't agree with you on that point. Android layouts are designed from the beginning to handle different screen sizes and proportions, pretty much like html. One of the iPhone's strong point has always been that you can design "pixel perfe

Seems to me that notifications were essential to the functionality of this app, you can't get that with a web app. Of course the "web app is sufficient" point is irrelevant though, it's fundamentally weird that someone is making arbitrary d

The big benefit about DSCM is by definitions that they are in fact very portable so I don't think this is an issue. I can't really see how github could ever lock in their customers, if their product becomes inferior to others the switch wil
