Yep, I still use XMMS. There is also qmmp[1] for a Qt based player. And I think Audacious[2] still has a classic winamp interface, although it's not the default anymore. [1] https://qmmp.ylsoftware.com/ [2] https:

I never supported the idea that we should turn our backs on modern technological advances. Of course these have improved our lives. But going back to your example, why are you trying to rationalize the fact that now two children are dead fr

Please don't sensationalize your example, it doesn't help your argument and others can play that game too *. While it's true that the industrial revolution has led to significant economic growth, I don't think that just

The 800 million number is straight from the World Health Organization. The one you are linking to is a third party that says that the World Food Programme organization reports 330 million in 78 countries. Here are two things to consider: *

How can you claim that famine has been "largely eradicated" when I just posted a reference that says that more than 800 million people are affected by hunger?

Isn't order a part of civilization though? Aren't local thugs and overlords part of our civilization? I'm not sure what your argument is. Our civilization cannot secure enough food for everyone. edit: typo

Rates are irrelevant. I don't see a scenario where 2 children dying of hunger is better than 1. My original statement is absolutely true: there are more people affected by hunger today than 1k years ago.

Except evolution does not work that way. It does not optimize for cognitive skills improvement. Not necessarily at least. Different traits may be more important for different species.

Am I misunderstanding something? Isn't that the way it is already with most open access journals? Apart from hiding the author's identity from the publisher of course.

Your comments show that you have a close understanding of technical details and processes used in the Gnome project. I believe you should come clean about what your relationship with the Gnome project is. As other have hinted, you do not se

I don't use xubuntu, but I don't think so. I don't see how xubuntu wouldn't be affected since this is a GTK+ issue. Starting any CSD application in Xfce will behave and look out of place and unfortunately, even some Xfce

I think the point was that every member of the public should have access to publicly funded research at least through the university's website, rather than at least everyone currently in universities should have access.

Can you please point me to a website from the 2000s that looks like this? A wayback machine link would do. Because I definitely don't remember websites from the 2000s looking like that. The website's design is fine.

I'm sure there is a way to fix it on Linux but an interim solution would be to use the windows executable with wine.

While I generally agree with you with respect to the mindset, it is actually possible to downgrade a flatpak [1]. It is rather involved, but possible. I have done it to downgrade cheese (the webcam app) since newer versions don't have

Who said anything about masks? And why does everything have to be black or white? I personally never hated masks. Never loved them either. But I understand how they help and when they don't.

Those things exist. You press a button instead of pulling a lever. Search for "drawing tablet" or "writing tablet". I've got a 20" one by Xiaomi, but there are lots to choose from, very inexpensive too.
