Non-programmer here. I've been interested in learning more about exactly this. Where should I start?

This is very impressive, but I am curious about why the author has chosen Mavericks as his retro version of OS X versus the other versions. I guess Mavericks is just modern enough but doesn't have the flat UI?

At one point I wanted to be a UX designer. I'm glad I didn't go that route. If only the focus was on research-backed timeless designs instead of chasing the latest trends.

Massive amounts of effort were poured into these historical operating systems and now they are obsolete. But obsolescence does not diminish the craftsmanship, skill, and ingenuity that went into their development. By admiring what the devel

I'm not a programmer so I can't practically exercise my user freedoms. If I was a programmer, I also couldn't practically exercise my user freedoms for most of the software I use. Maybe one programmer could maintain a fork of

Tip #1 should be: determine your threat model. Who are you, and why should hackers care about hacking you? Who is doing the hacking? Is it a 3-letter organization or other nation-state adversary? Is it a corporate actor trying to commit cor

My biggest concern with Optical Disks is obsolescence and convenience. I bought some DVD media to do some backups but so far I have only backed up a portion of my photos. Right now my files are being stored on my MacBook's internal SSD

I understand the appeal, but dumbphones aren't as good as they used to be. These days the typical dumbphone has some version of Android or a web-based OS like KaiOS shoehorned onto a poorly spec'd device with no touch screen. Dumb

Are there any Speedometer benchmark results for the M1 Ultra yet? I've looked, but haven't found any. Given how much time I spend in the browser/Electron apps, browser benchmarks are the only benchmarks that are relevant to m

Couldn't agree more. A good GUI beats a TUI any day. They have the potential to be far more intuitive as well as more aesthetically appealing. Not to mention that for some of us, a GUI gives far greater confidence than a TUI. For examp

Plain text is fine for some things but lacking for others. I like GUIs for formatting. I wouldn't be surprised if my ODTs could be opened a thousand years from now.
