Interesting! Is it theoretically possible to launch a "GPS jamming" satellite constellation? And if so, could you do it with far less satellites than the quantity you are attempting to jam?

IMO that's up to the agreement between the creator and the person they sell/license their creations to. I offer product "A" with defined conditions attached. It may be as simple as "it's 100% yours for $X"

Off-topic, but the Reason icon is strikingly similar to YCombinator's. Orange square, with a single white letter in the middle. Wonder if one was modeled off the other.

This article would have really benefited from an easily-creatsd line chart trending life expectancy over time. It would have given a lot of context to the drop. I was surprised at the oversight by both the NYT journalists and editors.

Why is the website failing with unhandled errors, but working when they are try/catch'd? Either way the errors are being thrown, and the functionality isn't available. Is the browser not able to handle the situation itself m

On the manufacturer side the chips are also smaller, which means more chips per wafer (and thus, presumably, more yield/profit), correct?

If things go right 8 times out of 10 overall, that's a net win. Expected value - I get Product X $2 cheaper if things go right, but lose $6 if things go wrong. Expected value = 2*.8-6*.2 = .4. Overall net positive.

Let's not forget the benefits either. Reduced redundancy is _good_ (as long as nothing fails in the chain, ofc). It enables society to make more, for lower costs. And it works remarkably well, overall.

You're right, unlocking the phone every single time you want to interact with it is exceedingly tedious. Which is why I remove the FaceID/passcode completely. The overall improvement to my QoL is well worth the increased risk.

Good points. No, I don't think I would want to do that job, even for more compensation. How about we just agree that companies should pay me more doing the exact same job I already know and enjoy? :]
