Honda's selling new CVT-based automatics now, the spacey DN-01 and overkill-redesigned VFR1200. Very expensive and aimed at no discernable market (unlike the old Hondamatics you mentioned). I haven't seen a single one on the road yet.

I'd be interested to see the motorcycle accident/fatality rate controlled for rider demographics, using car accidents as the control. I bet the difference is much less than commonly indicated. You should review the findings of the Hurt Re

I understand that, but it took the Perl community years to step up and fill the gap. (Thanks BTW.) The publisher's problem became the community's problem, which in turn became the language's problem.

Then there are the platforms that just stop shipping new versions for a decade or so. Perl's mistake was not releasing another Camel Book for a decade. The Perl 5.x language and libraries have done just fine.

No one said anything about causation. Reexamine the sentence, adjusted to the passive voice: As you can see, the general pattern is that better pictures are taken by more complex cameras. This does not conflict with your hypothesis.

Nope, that would be "27 inches development". "Gear inches" refers to the nominal wheel diameter multiplied by the gear ratio. Approximately, development == gear inches * pi. I prefer to use development as my unit, taking into account the

Good schools can be very useful for this. Personally, I know at MIT, most of what I took away didn't come from a classroom (of course, some of that's my fault). The community around a school can make all the difference.

It's considered old-fashioned because in the olden days, you didn't really have a choice. Programs started on mainframe systems (client/server with a very dumb client) then moved to PCs once they had enough horsepower. For most applicatio

If you'd hit the 'reply' button seven years ago, you might have more reality to back up your assertions, but now you're just plain wrong. In, say, 5 years Perl won't have the luster it once did I like Perl, I think it's a solid language,

Perl usage on the web began to fall off due in part to PHP, but you're neglecting the huge amount of Perl used in text processing, system administration, automation, even the sciences. PHP is (very mildly) comparable to Perl's Mason templ

Perl 6 is not meant to interoperate directly with Perl 5. It's not an incremental update in any way. IMO, it would be a lot clearer if Perl 6 weren't called Perl.

You have a good point that Perl doesn't have great adoption with young'uns. I think we'd see more Perl usage if Ruby didn't exist; Ruby borrowed some of Perl's most attractive features and is rightly popular for it. By the numbers, though,
