Comparing the OpenCL GeekBench score is unfair. "More popular"? I don't really think so. Anyway of course it's going to be slower than a machine with more then two times its number of cores.

The article says the most recent version of iOS targeted is 15.7, which don't have the lockdown mode (it was introduced in iOS 16). There isn't any details on how the exploit works yet, so it's hard to say.

Not really. It lacks the insight and the attention to small changes and under the hood improvements of the Siracusa's reviews, in my opinion.

How? Sandboxing isn't about preventing running app unsigned by Apple. A sandboxed app can be signed with ad-hoc certificate. Sandboxing means to explicitly limit the reach of an app. This is easy in some case: limit access to the netwo

That’s not how the macOS app sandbox works, it’s up to the developer to implement it. Apple introduced a few protection for normal apps recently, for example reading files from Documents, Desktop, external drives, and a few more places show

They do allow, but it’s not required. So many developers take the easy way and don’t sandbox their app even when it’s easy. The macOS sandbox clearly needs some improvements, but developers have their part of faults too.

A bit, all the App Store apps (with a few exception by Apple, of course) are sandboxed. That's an additional level of security that normal apps don't require. The macOS sandbox is not perfect, but in most cases is better than noth

Tone mapping is used for HDR screens too, if the screen has got less nits than the video. Anyway, probably it's something else, you will have more luck asking DaVinci Resolve developers. It could be they are ignoring the screen color p

Because tone mapping from an high dynamic range to a standard dynamic range is not standardised, there are some recommendations, but each app uses a slightly different algorithm. Then an app might implement tone mapping for HLG, some might

Time Machine has continued to use HFS+ until recently, I think TM on APFS was introduced in macOS 11, and it requires to start a new backup from scratch. However, it should support block level diffing.

They already have an app, Keychain Access, but for weird reasons they integrated the new features into System Setting instead of expanding the existing app.

Just my guess. But it's been introduced at least 6 years ago, and Apple switched to its own CPU and GPU three years ago, so each passing year there are fewer chances of it getting fixed, and relatively soon macOS will require and Apple

That could be a totally unrelated bug, iOS is still running many different software pieces. On macOS I saw no issue on Nvidia, AMD, and Apple GPUs.

That's a bug in Intel GPUs Drivers. Windows Server can use an optimized display mode when there is only a Core Animation Layer that covers the entire screen. Unfortunately on Intel GPUs color management is not correct if the layer bit

Which UI conventions are broken? SwiftUI mostly uses the standard AppKit widgets, then it's up to the developer to use it or to customise everything and make a monster out of it. The main "issue" is that it's much easier

Developers can decide to allow the download of the latest compatible version for old devices, but it seems a lot decides to against it. So unless you manually backup the apps, it's really a pain to restore things on old devices.

Apple Music includes the old iTunes Match features, so it matches your local library with the Apple Music library if you allow it to do so, and uploads only the songs it can't match. This process is not perfect so some songs might be m

Each settings panel is run in a separate xpc process, that is launched on demand. So the UI is rendered out of process too. Open Activity Monitor and see how many processes are run when navigating around in System Settings.

That doesn't make sense, most game are made with Unity and Unreal, which can quite easily package a Mac version, but those aren't coming to Mac either. Which AAA studio uses Vulkan anyway?
