It is possible if you add proper trust metric, karma as it is right now is just a little bit too primitive for that.

Hey, I've seen these sliders somewhere before :) maybe you need a real-time recommender too? contact me.

potentially they can add custom domains too, I do not think reddit will let you customize your subreddits too much :)

seems like rails: "Server Mongrel 1.1.4" in response headers, application.js with prototype.js in the scripts.

Based on what I see on my site they are pretty smart and very determined. I think you should make it truly merit based - submit a bugfix or a feature patch to an open source project to post a link :)

Imagine hordes of offshore spammers solving this puzzle all day long for fun (and profit).

Most people do not like when I'm telling them about my startup. Especially online. Somehow talking about what you care about is taken as a self-promotion and counts as spam in their eyes. Go figure.

the sliders are updated based on your feedback already, you do not have to touch them, they will work as indicators of your interest just fine.

You do not have to install anything, just bookmark a link that lets you post. The best way is to put it in the links toolbar of your browser, but it doesn't have to be there.

jaanix can be both - for example: http://jaanix.com/security or http://jaanix.com/rails are pretty focused.

yes, del.icio.us import was there, people were importing thousands of links, had to turn off due to too high post to user ratio. I'd prefer less links but higher quality for now. Once more users join will let more stories in.

Called network effect - true for network-based systems with similar functionality. Jaanix will have much more, soon, this is just to bootstrap. Start posting, and people like you will stay :)

As of today about 1000 unique visitors a day. ~100 people are posting. But I'm sure the site can bootstrap from that, as it can be useful even if you have just a few friends there. Jaanix has been running as a closed system for almost a yea

On jaanix sliders serve two purposes - they let you know where you are and why the system is showing you stuff on the left, at the same time they let you quickly change your view of the world.

Agree, this is why I do not use pandora or findory. If you teach jaanix that you like new and mind-stimulating things, it will find things that are new to you. It even lets you stretch the limits of your comfort zone with sliders.

The main purpose of the site is to let you find stuff that you will not find on other popularity based systems. I find stuff that is on the front page of digg or reddit almost 100% noise, at the same time, the posts that I care about are b

I'm a founder of jaanix. Just a bit of background - jaanix is not a regular social news site. First of all everything is personalized - and not just by tweaking some settings or selecting your favorite tags, but in a machine learning way -

It is not just tags, it is using a netflix like recommendation system inside.

jaanix does it already, takes into account everything: views, clicks, ratings, tags.
