Do phones send some kind of unique Bluetooth signature that could be used to authenticate a user? The user would have to just tether their their phone to the computer. A browser plugin would authenticate sites that way. That seems like it&#

I like the idea of getting a text message on your phone with a very quickly expiring key (60 seconds), or having an authentication app like Google's, which works for a bunch of websites. I do admit, even that's kind of annoying. T

People learned, over time, that they have to lock their doors and keep their wallet safe. How is this different? Just make the learning curve as shallow as possible.

True, which is why I think it might open up a nice new revenue channel for VPS hosts. Pay a company a monthly fee and they host your personal API. Also, it's encrypted, so they can't get to it. Someone else mentioned user stupidit

Yep, exactly. That's where I got the idea. I feel like, if someone's going hold all of a user's data in one place, and be their online identity, in a sense, it should be the user.

What if each user had a personal data store, either running on a server they pay for, or one that they host themselves, at home? All their blog posts, comments, pictures, videos, location history, and everything else, is owned by them. They

I'm using the app now and I see that I have "0 thank you cards." That seems like it might be some kind of points system. We'll see once I can get someone else to install the thing.

> "There are some obvious reasons for this, such as UPS’ decision to let its workers take Christmas day off." Good for them. I respect that a lot more than them being able to deliver every single package on Christmas Eve.

Interesting. I didn't know they had those limitations. Better off with regular SD card backups then.

What's wrong with storing contacts on a SIM card? Seems like a good idea, just move it to a new phone and boom, all your contacts are there.

Throwing ideas around is almost always helpful. Often when someone points out a solution to a problem or presents a good idea for something new, someone else, who hadn't thought of it themselves, will be inspired and go do the implemen

The scene right after the hunter gives her a chance to run away, where she's running through the woods and the trees look like they're alive, and then she falls in water and her hair gets wet, is amazing. Also, the shadows in the

Facebook is more robust and convenient than email (huge amounts of videos, pictures, "statuses" in one place, plus messaging and a way to search for profiles. Email doesn't have those). Phone calls aren't asynchronous, y

I don't think I'm missing the problem at all. The problem is that that average business trusts Google way too much. They think Google is some kind of free public service. They're putting all their eggs in Google's basket

The problem comes when you scroll past some detail because the speed changed. That happens to me a lot with these things. Also, I'm never sure when I'm supposed to stop scrolling. As others have said it's just distracting.

Let's say I own a single store and it happens to be in a space in a mall. Also, the mall is letting me do business there for free. I get exposure, electricity, easy access, all kinds of good stuff, for free. (The mall is Google) Sudden

I remember almost not installing HL2 when it first came out, because I didn't want to install Steam. Back then, the concept of being locked in to a certain launcher felt so wrong. I didn't do anything with Steam (besides having to

I appreciate and use Wine quite a bit, but it's far from perfect. A lot of things just plain crash from the get go. Also, I wish that Steam on Linux would attempt to install and run Windows games via Wine. If I want to play, for instan
