This has been going on since the birth of the record industry. The only thing different about the present and the past is the volume of chatter about the subject.

Hey Ive been there too and from my experience big splash entries like Techcrunch articles and the likes don't do as much as people think. "don't release anything to the public unless you are certain it will get traction." This is a distrib

Well we almost agree don't we? :) I think you're taking what I'm saying out of context. I said half baked products give you the required flexibility to listen to the market. I dont think you can over expose your self to the market. The prob

"Though never release half-baked cr@p. You have exactly one chance to make the initial splash, don't waste it." This is absolutely not true! Release ANYTHING. A half baked product will provide you with required flexibility youll need when t

Really? You should go ALOT further. In my opinion you're making all the same mistakes I made when I started working on social applications. You had a idea first and are now trying to make it viral. Thats the wrong order. You need to get all

Oh I see that now. Ive trained myself to be a regular user and refuse to read anything :) I would make a bigger deal out of your reward plan. Maybe a banner or something and repeat that on every tab.

Should work on your viral component. It sucks but people dont tend to send many invites out of the kindness of their hearts.

I think the most important point was: "You don't get rich by being nice." This is seldom said but often true.

I dont know why this keeps coming up on HN, but the answer is pretty simple. If you want to go viral get your readers/users to send as many messages as possible. Incentivized invites, email contact scraping, IM contact scraping, embeds, sha
