Come to Lithuania (we have winters of -25C and summers of 35C). All new homes have to be build to a building code that actually exceeds Passive House in some cases. In our apartment (built 2016) we don't even turn on the heating until

Windows have a U or R value like insulation, so you can use that to compare. We are currently building a house and the triple glazed windows we chose have a U value of 0.9. The same manufacturer also makes double glazed windows which have a

In Europe it seems to have changed too. Salaries are still of course low compared to the US, but it seems the salaries are stabilising across the continent. I've been speaking to recruiters recently and a lot more companies are open to

There's also the option of migration within the country. If we take an elevation map of Bangladesh and compare it to a climate map, there are areas that are higher and still have good climates for crops. https://www.research

I was working with a Ukrainian guy for a few years, and he was always complaining about taxes and how he wanted to pay less. Eventually he told us he was paying an effective tax rate of 7% :D

This is the same for professional printers too. A friend of mine has a side business printing signs and has a large format Epson (I think?) printer. It takes something like 12 inks and has options for chrome and other niche colours. During

I'm interested to know why you didn't go back. Reading OPs article there are a lot of red flags that stand out to me today, but if I was young and fresh out of college, I'd probably be happy to take a job there.

I was under the impression that modern reactors have much safer designs that would make a repeat of that much less likely, and then slightly different tech like molten salt reactors completely prevent meltdowns. That still doesn't prev

Yeah for smaller companies this is the norm. Even within Europe, if you work for a company in another country it will usually be as a contractor on paper, as it's a lot of work to setup payroll etc for one person (it needs to be done

I don't really see a problem with this, as long as it is only used after an incident and only available to law enforcement. Of course it's a slippery slope, first this, then something else, but that's a different story. If yo

I upgraded to an Asus Zephyrus G14 (2021 edition) at the end of last year, as my T470s was getting a bit slow. The dimensions are smaller than the Thinkpad, but it weighs slightly more (1.7kg). The thing is though this is a gaming laptop...

The main issue is that a heat pump takes a lot longer to heat up water on demand than a gas boiler. A gas boiler as used in the UK typically has a heat output of 25 to 50kW. Where as a heat pump for the same sized home can produce maybe 8kW

Probably not much. Fuel tanks are usually made of plastic now, so you aren't likely to create a spark and ignite something. Petrol fuel in liquid form is hard to ignite, so if it leaks not much is going to happen other than giving your

I had a cheap one 5 years ago that was able to jump start a car. The instructions said to leave it connected to the battery for 30 seconds before trying to start it, so I guess it's more a portable battery charger than a jump starter.

This is me... I live in an apartment without space to securely store a bike (bikes left in the parking have been stolen) and I really don't like running. I try to walk 10,000 steps each day - around 5km or 1 hour in total - though.

If they want to go green, why are they even allowing new homes to be heated by burning fossil fuels? Especially France where you have electricity with such a low CO2/kWh. In Lithuania you can no longer build new homes heated by gas. Al

Retrofitting is going to be much more than the cost of the unit itself though. You can't just replace an on-demand gas boiler with a heat pump. The rest of the heating system is completely different between the two, it just wouldn'

Goods vehicles and trucks almost always have speed limiters in Europe that do exactly this. This leads to fun on the highway when one truck who's limiter is a mile an hour or two faster than the truck in front decides to overtake.
