The truely universal language is math. There are however languages that do not use english words at all. e.g. APL or J. In these languages also localized programs in any language would be possible. For example quicksort in J: qs =: (($:@(&l

Fun fact: In the former GDR the percentage of people who never believed in god was 59% and only 13% believed in god at all time. Contrast this to the Philippines where the percentage of believers is 94%. In the US 81% believe in god. https

I like the "do" notation in Haskell because it boils down the meaning of monads to the following: Monads let you break the functional programming paradigm that a function should have the same value each time it is called. e.g.

It is interesting that each epoch had an image of the universe that correlated closely to their current technological state. Not so long ago people thought about a mechanical universe. So now because computers are pervasive we think about a

The dipole drive uses the protons and electrons of the solar wind for propulsion. They are reflected in an electric field and the paper claims that velocities higher than the solar wind speed can be achieved. But take the proposal with a gr

It is not just the water. It is also changing the reflectivity (albedo) of the earth which results in even faster increasing temperatures. This might lead to a self sustained acceleration as soon as the permafrost is melting and the CO2 i

It does not matter whether it is gold or anything else. Any material is more valuable in space than on earth because you have to transport it to space. So you could mine an asteroid for 2 kg of anything and it would be as valuable as 1 kg o

Why should it be quickly radiated away? What makes the heat different from the energy that is already stored in the atmosphere? In total it would be the energy of a large asteroid being smashed on earth. (energy conservation)

by fxj 7y ago
It is quite expensive to send material to an orbit around earth. A quick search says $22.000 per kilo. The price of gold per kilo is about $45.000. So wouldnt it make more sense to keep the gold in the orbit and use it to build things in sp

There exists the law of conservation for charge (aka electricity) and energy, but no conservation law for money. Money behaves more like entropy.

Running out of money is what happens when a company goes bankrupt. Which happens more often during recessions.

How does this explain the loss of value of money by inflation?

by fxj 7y ago
Money is just a promise. You promise that you do something for somebody and in exchange you get money which you can convert to another promise. In the end it depends on the reliability of the people who use it whether money exists or dissol
