how come that so many HN readers are so pro-nuclear? would that change if the fall-out from japan would hit the U.S. like the chernobyl fall-out hit germany in the 80s?

why is this upmodded? it seems to me that here at HN many people have a very cargo cult knowledge of physics and radioactivity in special. hey guys, here is the message: radioactivity damages cells and finally kill you. stop the wishful thi

ummm half life means factor 2 in activity reduction. to obtain a factor 1000 in activity reduction you would have to wait 10 times as long. 300 years?

25 years after chernobyl, we still find contaminated material in germany. e.g. mushrooms and wild boar. so i would be VERY carful with such a bold statement as in the linked article. http://www.sueddeutsche.de/wissen/langfristige-folgen-vo

Exactly! this means that german workers cannot get an increase of their salaries but some multi-national banks and cooperations earn billions. At the moment the european economy is more neo-con that the american ever was.

The equation 4=x^x^x^x^x^x^x... is not solvable. Read the wikipedia article. x^x^x^x^x... either converges to a value smaller than 4 or does not converge at all.

maybe you meant 4=x^x^x^x^x^x... cannot be solved because there exists no x that solves the equation y=x^x^x^x^x... for a maximum value of y which is a positive real solution of the equation y = x^y. Thus, x = y^(1/y). The limit defining th

Yes you are totally right. Furthermore: In relativity there is no "right now" moment. Two simultaneous events in one reference frame can be one after the other in another reference frame. (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relativity_of_si
