Is it possible to design hexagonally laid out keys with the current layout system? It's very hard for me in my late 30s to relearn a keyboard layout, to be honest. I don't think I would have the patience. But this is a very cool i

Same for me here in northern Norway. The winters are milder, less snowy. It's clear as day to me and the people around me.

He came to our startup once (IncludeOS) and simply asked us what we had problems in, in C++ and what we think about it. Very refreshing. I also won a game of Secret Hitler by denying his veto.

RISC-V is completely fine, heavily based on research and well thought out. It does have pros and cons like any other architecture, and for what it does well, it does it really well!

I agree. It's the worst decision so far that they've done. OpenGL may not be perfect, but it worked well everywhere. And what about all the thousands of programs that uses OpenGL? Even future programs may use OpenGL - it is not a

Do you have access to builtins and intrinsics? Are there any plans? The single threaded thing is not an issue because you can still call the same function on each CPU and use the CPU ID to target parts of the computation, like a compute ker

Why WASM? It would be a pessimization compared to just transpiling to C if performance is the goal. WASM also is restricted to 128-bit vector instructions.

Most of the ones you list require dynamic linking and so is hard to make use of in specialized environments. His project seems to be generating generic C code which is much easier to port to any weird platforms. In fact, it might be perfect

Modern desktops do multi-display and scaling better. Perhaps also GPU-work, however I greatly prioritize low latency over any fancy windowing. I wonder how the Windows 2000 desktop latency was? I remember it felt really snappy.

I have to say that I agree with this. The primary purpose of an operating system now that I passed my *rties is to get out of the way. And Linux does that really well, while Windows is doing it less and less. I'm happy that we have at

I'm glad to see it because despite Rusts hype and popularity on HN I love to write C++ and I am even starting new projects in it occasionally. I have read many times that I should be starting new projects in Rust these days. The last p

Same here. 3 layer glass in Norway, with AC and ventilation system. 250mm isolation in the walls and 350mm under the roof. Because of this I have almost no energy bill. It was expensive, though.

The whole thing is easily explainable: People who walk around spreading COV19 is killing other people. Everyone has a story like that, and it's unfortunate that we have to explain it again and again. You have free will until you start

Very interesting and thanks for doing this! This is exactly what I need for a special case in an environment where changing page tables is not allowed. Static executables with AOT optimized code is preferred, for performance reasons. Thanks

No, it's for an edge compute platform that I'm developing for someone. So I will just provide the execution environment, not the actual programs.

I would love to use this in a "special setting" but it has to be compiled, static, code. So, if there is an implementation for C, C++, Rust or any other language that would be great! I am more than willing to handle the special bu

The B-extension, which likely all desktop class CPUs will have (and probably others too?) has most of the bit manipulation instructions. There is also a vector extension, crypto extension and even a 128-bit computer (Q-extension)!

Looks like they are trying to make the transition smooth and didn't introduce too many breaking changes, even though it is a major version change. I wonder why they didn't take the opportunity to make the APIs much safer to use? F

I have to agree. That's the most naive thing I've read today. Powers are always abused to a degree, and some more than others. In the "decent" corner of the world the police have less powers, and I think we can extrapola
