This is exactly how it works. It's disappointing how many ifs and buts people are giving him just because they don't particularly like Carlsen. It really shows. Cheaters are serial cheaters, and they will deny deny deny. The probl

There's some extra checks, which are usually branches, so I would guess that the branch predictor gets a little bit more pressured, while also taking a few extra cycles in the branches. But, I think you can still create fast happy path

I'm pretty sure if NoScript had a default that allowed *.domain and domain, most sites would render quite ok. That's my experience from using it for years and years. There are sites that require a few extra things, however many of

The vector extension in RISC-V is extremely powerful, and I think it will be very interesting to see what can be done with it in a desktop or server CPU down the road.

Hardly miserable. But we do need to address the fact that people are not starting new projects in C++. It is a fact, and that fact has a well understood reason. Solving that issue the regular way, through implementation, committee and then

I think it is more natural because it tackles things like exception handling in a new novel direction: Zero-overhead deterministic exceptions, among other things. He picks up all the things that clearly have great potential (and some have b

What is the overhead of the spectre mitigations? I read a PhD dissertation showing that v8 suffers a 20% overhead in practice. People can sugar those numbers, but I wouldn't expect another userspace-emulator-like program to behave diff

Happy to see they finally reduced the instantiation time to a few microseconds. I have had 1 micro in prod for another emulator, so I was wondering what the holdup was. Also see they are using madvise for CoW - it is fairly slow and I ended

Indeed, you would need to check that the mask ends up being exactly alpha and blue, otherwise it's just an automatic boolean conversion from integer to boolean, which many languages are doing away with due to all the bugs it produces.

The things that happened and were said by Trump during his presidency was so unfathomably bad that I don't think the US will recover its status abroad for a long time. It doesn't matter who gets to be president next. The fact that

I guess there are many ways forward if you want to do this. One of the hardest problems is the concept of "most important bits". The most important bits are the exact bits needed to re-create your program. Think of it as a save st
