This is more fun to read as the cross-post on Medium ( https://medium.com/@davewiner/anywhere-but-medium-5450cb19f2... ), especially the parts about how people can't criticize Medium on Medium.

This is fascinating (and sad), but it makes me wonder, could police use your fitness tracker as a sort of poor-mans polygraph? i.e. interview a subject normally, and then get a warrant (or not get a warrant) to view the online data and corr

Well cities have a somewhat captive market - if they pump it to your house, you'll either use it or pay extra for bottles, and at the least you won't shower or flush your toilet with bottled water.

"consider re-applying as your skills and contributions to open source projects grow and expand." It's not us - it's you. I'm surprised they feel the need to blame the candidate, especially since I'd guess exper

Yeah, but that's what Kickstarter decided to become at some point, they weren't always that way. I'm hoping that other crowdfunding platforms don't go this direction, and allow me to choose my risk without opening the cr

I never see the articles about how investors need to be more careful, because some of the companies they're investing in are failing . That's sort of the point of the platform - I give you money for something that currently does

Girls are discouraged from studying STEM from an early age, as the infographic mentions. Some tech companies do try to hire women, but many don't care. And sexual harassment is not the only problem facing women in the workplace.

Sure - stack everything against women working in tech - early education, hiring, work environment - and then if "they choose to stay out of tech, I guess that's their choice."

I'd be more interested in my doctor having this information. I tend to self diagnose (poorly) when presented with too much information that I don't understand well. But I feel like a medical professional could use the data to keep

It's interesting that they don't mention how/if they're avoiding false positives. I don't doubt that some people have exceptional facial recognition skills, but if they're given a face they haven't seen be

That's pretty insane actually (although common) - would immediately disqualify them from consideration for me.

What are some good Amazon Prime (shopping) alternatives? Yearly fee for low cost or free fast shipping, with an inventory of pretty much everything?

Looks like they include instructions on how to build in SOURCE.md ( https://github.com/delight-im/FreeGeoDB/blob/master/SOURCE.m... ) - would be great to have that linked in the README though.

I keep gatekeeper disabled because I don't want app developers to have to sign up with (and I believe pay money to) Apple to setup a Developer ID. (but I also don't download Xcode from random places)

Is "Christina Warren, writing at Mashable," with no link, actually considered an acceptable way to quote an author online? It's sort of attribution, but it feels obfuscating. The article they're referencing is here htt

I think another question to ask yourself is, why do you feel this isn't normal? If others claim they could do the task faster, consider that programmers chronically underestimate. If you've seen others do it faster, it's poss

I know that Kickstarter's policy supports this thinking, but I've always disagreed. The thing that made me excited about Kickstarter was people doing projects crazy enough that you couldn't guarantee they'd be successful

I find it strange that large companies envy the things smaller shops are able to do, and they'll spend the money to buy them up, but they won't spend the time to understand the culture that let them build what they built. Put empl
