The linked post about his treatment is basically a vanity article; low in useful information, but high in vague assertions and platitudes. There's also a link to a post griping about the red tape someone experienced while trying to sel

As a data scientist, I find applied Bayesian methods to be incredibly straightforward for most of the common problems we see like A/B testing and online measuring of parameters. I dislike that people usually first introduce Bayesian me

Given your bias, why bother making this point on a thread about using Bayesian methods where they are applicable? Just seems like unconstructive negativity.

FWIW, the iPad Air I bought a couple years ago has a small protrusion for the single camera lens, but does not wobble when laying flat and is not really noticeable. This latest iPad Air has a similar design.

I make it on the stove top. It also takes 30 minutes to cook and 10 to cool. My ratio of water to dry oatmeal is 3 to 1 by weight in grams and I mix in honey after it's done.

Working with the government is typically a huge pain in the ass unless you have a lot of friends on the inside. It's not hard to do the math when you you dealing with a government whose acting incredibly oppositional.

I sold my first edition almost 10 years ago to fund (partially) my unemployment during a career transition to data science. A couple years, ago my brother bought me a nice reissue for Christmas without ever knowing I once owned a copy. Odd

Got a free Gmail account? Add $20 or so and you'll be swimming in Gemini outputs. Yet both companies also have a cumbersome onboarding process if all you want to do is get an API token. So yeah, quite similar!

Oh neat. So have the llm output csv instead of JSON and then convert it? How would handle nested structures?

Seeing half of an AR LLM's output tokens go to generating a predefined json schema bothers me so much. I would love to have an option to use diffusion for infilling.

Google is a cloud provider so API usage is funneled thru GCP. It's the same for Microsoft and Amazon.

Yeah, if the goal of the article was to convince Windows users to switch to Linux then Ubuntu would provide as frictionless an install as Windows. Since the author chooses CachyOS, of course there's going to be some important steps dur

Just go to wikipedia for the mundane explanation: data leakage to the judges of poorly designed experiments. Absolutely zero reproducibility.

If you consider the extent to which our economy has become financialized, then you see these decisions have little to do with providing a product for customers but rather a stock for investors.

Bari wisely points out that if the deportees are being tortured, then there must be a secretly good reason why if they dig a little deeper. Suggests asking Stephen Miller.

General purpose LLMs aren't very good with generating bounding boxes, so with that context, this is actually seen as decent performance for certain use cases.

Yeah, that's bothered me as well. Andrej Karpathy does this all the time when he talks about the human brain and making analogies to LLMs. He makes speculative statements about how the human brain works as though it's established

I also tried that in the past with poor results. I just tried it this morning with nano banana pro and it nailed it with a very short prompt: "Repaint the house white with black trim. Do not paint over brick."

Fun vacuum tube history fact: the humble vacuum tube actually traces its origins back to Edison’s incandescent light bulbs. Those early bulbs would mysteriously blacken over time, and for years nobody could figure out why. It wasn’t until 1

I think that goes without saying. The real question is what's the line between neutrality and letting a vocal minority dictate editorial decisions? Especially when the vocal minority has biased incentives towards making those changes.

The nice thing about Ventoy—and I didn’t fully appreciate this until I used it—is how simple it makes bootable USBs. You just drag and drop ISO images onto the drive, and it can hold as many as will fit. When you boot from the Ventoy USB, y

The author doesn't bother to consider that giving a false response already leads to more model calls until a better one is provided.
