The keys to decrypt the kernel are in u-boot. u-boot's keys are in the low level boot loader, and the keys for that are sometimes burned in write-only fuses on the microcontroller itself. Other chips have OP-TEE or similar frameworks

I use them in embedded systems because they allow me to mount encrypted volumes without exposing the keys.

They didn't trap Ctrl+C on Linux, so you had to be really careful about key binds.

I downloaded so many Slackware disk sets just to find out that it didn't support my SCSI card. Good old root and boot disks.

> lusting after a central whole-house humidifier These are not terribly expensive, although installation can be tricky if you're not handy. The humidifier, for me, is a godsend in the winter months. I had a cabinet style one befor

I had a 486dx and it was such a huge upgrade over a 286. I ordered pov-ray from some shareware catalog since I didn't have internet access, and it arrived on 3.5" floppies.

I've used it for marshalling data and it's worked quite well for us. I did not use grpc, though. Perhaps my use case was far more simple.

Can you describe one of your problems? I've had very smooth sailing with systemd and I like not having to play games with pid files and pgrep like I had to in the 90s.

During the vi / emacs wars, the joke was that emacs stood for "eight megabytes and constantly swapping". How times have changed.
