My mostly remote tech company has unlimited PTO. I'm on track for 8 weeks this year, like last year. I've found more than 8 weeks to be stressful because I still have to get things done. It's definitely one of the reasons I&#

I made a compass app for when I'm driving. Shows direction, speed, and coordinates. Doesn't work of you're not moving. I love it.

I think it's a fallacy to believe to that simplicity has a rather obvious form. From the view point of a SaaS developer, at some point you have to add a bunch of business logic that is determined by what's needed to satisfy requir

I find co-pilot to be useful. It forces me to write a lot of comments and the comments drive the code. For new personal projects, chatGPT can get some ideas going fast, but I end up changing a lot of it. ChatGPT does show me a lot of new li

My only issue with concepts such as the Darwin Awards is that they do not reflect upon whether or not the deceased has reproduced. To attribute darwinism to lethal mistakes is meaningless unless we know whether or not the deceased has a chi

In the US, it could be argued that big tech, and the government through big tech, violate the 4th amendment - specifically regarding a reasonable expectation of privacy. Can an individual reasonably know the data that every platform has on

I think it's okay to do tasks that others (including AI) can do better and faster. For me personally, making art is as much of the process as the end product. I like to draw digital art and paint and make digital music. I find the acti

You might be surprised if you ask the people you work with. I'm doing a part time MS while I work, but one of my ex managers who wrote a letter for me encouraged me to go to school and leave the company and work on cool things.

The name of Lavender makes this so surreal to me for some reason. I'm of the opinion that algorithms shouldn't determine who lives and dies, but it's so common even outside of war.

I'd argue it's hard to know whether you want to work at a company unless you interview. The cost of interviewing is miniscule compared to the cost of hiring. I agree, always be courteous and professional, but you have to interview
