Yes, this is quite important for C projects as it leads to subtle bugs. I also long for a way to let make detect a change of $CC (new build of the compiler itself) in the context of debugging a compiler against third party makefile projects

To be fair, GCC even at -O1 knows the looped statement is non-observable, it's entirely optimized out: https://godbolt.org/z/afjz9h471

If you are ok with unoptimized codegen, chibicc[0] is very easy to modify. For an example checkout the patch set for adding defer in my fork[1]. [0] https://github.com/rui314/chibicc [1] https://github.com&#

I'm porting a small C compiler to 64-bit RISC-V and just learned a quirk that uint32_t is represented in-register as sign extended to 64-bit. Without Zba extension the compiler has to insert a bit-clearing sequence every time the value

Constant-time programming itself isn't quite portable, RISC-V for example requires the Zkt extension to mandate it.

For "any size" I was kind of expecting arbitrary sized mantissa/exponent, can be useful for emulating weird DACs, for example, 12-bit mantissa and 3-bit exponent[1]. [1] https://ajxs.me/blog/Yamaha_DX7_Te

Sometimes I wonder if you can cash off the AI trend by setting up a page like this with pre-AI royalty-free clips (thousands of those exist and sound pretty convincing).

It's a bit more than bit depths, some use non-linear encoding (mu-law etc) which also contribute to uniqueness.

Gothic/Industrial is way too far from the Rock chunk, it's closely related and contemporary to New Wave/Post-Punk. The connection can be drawn from The Cure, Joy Division/New Order, Killing Joke etc.

For the compiler (or linker if global), it already has to prepare a space for the variable, the address is acquired from layout plan, not from referencing the variable at runtime, so the semantics is analogous to "fill number three in

Zig recently added "continue" to labeled switch[0], which re-evaluates the switch with a specified new value, pretty neat for state machine code. I'm tempted to sneak that into my C2Y implementation. [0] https://zi

This is too close to C++ templated functions, I would prefer just use C++ syntax with stricter rules like C23 did with constexpr and auto. Being able to interop/share code with C++ with extern "C"{ template<T> } wouldn&

Oops too late to edit, that's really a function prototype. So it wouldn't take storage space or affect symbol unless the user naughtily calls the __Static_assert_function.

My recent favorite is glibc's hack to implement _Static_assert under C99: https://codebrowser.dev/glibc/glibc/misc/sys/cdefs.h.html#56... It uses the constant expression to create a bitfield of size

I'll give the benefit of doubt in accuracy for chip emulations not executed in their real world clock rate, which would be quite expansive to do real-time. But as a creative environment, this is pure fun!

FM is one of the most "naturally digital" synthesis method to implement, it's trivial once you have an accumulator and sin table working. The simplest form (and arguably the easiest to sound musical), can be expressed with a

Thanks for the info. So in practice there are node types that encode sequential flow as needed. I wonder if the other way around works: keep the CFG form for side effects and only promote SSA values to be "floating".
