They are subtly different. Macros are the only way to process s-expressions without first calling eval on them. This is necessary because without macros you could only generate and eval quoted code. Also practically it's cumbersome to

I've also felt that real numbers aren't real ever since I tried doing algebra in floating point numbers and finding that some formulas that can be reversed in math cannot be reversed on a computer. In the real numbers there exists

The waste isn't even that bad. There's not that much of it and we have extremely safe storage solutions. We way over engineered the safety by orders of magnitude. Nuclear waste storage facilities can take a direct missile hit and

I think you're confusing unspecified and undefined behavior. UB could do something randomly different every time and unspecified must chose an option. In a lot of cases in optimizing compilers they just assume UB doesn't exist. Ye

It's not AGI because it still doesn't understand anything. It can only tell you things that can be found on the internet. These "jagged" results expose the truth that these models have near 0 intelligence. It is not a si

If you wrote better commit messages you might look at them more because they're a lot more useful. At work I see it as explaining why the code is there so when people check the blame layer they can find out and not delete my code if my

I learned very quickly reading math papers that you should not get stuck staring at the formulas, read the rest first and let them explain the formulas. I would not say it should be read start to finish, I often had to read over parts multi

This is from the SysV calling convention not x86 itself. The CPU can do unaligned just fine. You don't have to use the calling convention when not calling out to a library.

The risk pool should be as large as possible, the whole country, to minimize costs for everyone. It's deeply unfair to tell someone that lost their job that they also now have no access to healthcare.

Bitcoin failed because of bad monetary policy turning it into something like a ponzi scheme where only early adopters win. The monetary policy isn't as hard to fix as people make it out to be.

To be fair we do have computer verified proofs now although it doesn't encompass everything. Also programming is based on mathematical ideas. I don't think you can do away with mathematics just because of AI.

That makes no sense. Phones and watches mostly use 4g and wifi band signals which both go through thin plastic shells and indeed your entire body without interference.
