These were my first encounters with the stories first hand, and loved them. I suppose it’s a matter of taste. We’ve never been through classic texts at school, I think it’s a cultural thing if they are fundamental enough to be taught at sch

I can warmly recommend the new Iliad translation by Caroline Alexander as audiobook. Suberb! I understand the new translation by Emily Wilson (whose Odyssey was excellent) should be good as well. The new translations really bring these old

Not an issue with F#. It’s trivial to exit ’purely functional’ domain, write it like ’pythonic C#’ and still end up with a program that is correct out-of-the-box.

Yeah, it’s the ecosystem, not the paradigm. In .net, most UI stuff is easy on C# and semi-painfull on F# because of limited tooling and examples. I don’t see any theoretical reason why a usable functional language could not be used everywhe

Mutation is fine in pragmatic functional programming and IMO is not the defining feature what makes it so good for industrial use cases. Functional programming must allow easy immutable programs, and you can do that in SQL by never erasin

NATO is not an anti-Russian league. Russia has nukes to protect its sovereignty. It has absolutely nothing to fear from NATO. What Russia does not like, is to be denied the capability to invade and threaten it's neighbours (because the

The fact C++ has so many ways of defining things is not the reason it's so popular. The reason is the enormous industry investment on the language tooling and ecosystem. IMO the language itself is the worst part of the ecosystem, but t
