Another way to look at it is: If this guy pitched to you the idea of investing $75k cash in his startup for 3.75% in common (not preferred, no liquidation preference, no voting rights), would you do it, or would you laugh at him?

Let's do some arithmetic for you. At 125k/8%, you're giving up $50k salary for 8% equity. At 100k/15%, you're giving up $75k salary for 15% equity. But it isn't 15%. If it's a typical 4 year vesting, it

Give up. Your current team is incompetent. They are padding their resume with node/angular experience at your expense. They should have a working demo after 2 months.

The author did something super-unethical/illegal. He sold in his personal account before selling in his firm account. In effect, he transferred $48.5k from his employer's account to his personal account.

There were a whole bunch of suspicious things. I'll mention the most obvious. 1. Table A had summary data that was used for reports. Table B had trade detail data, which nobody normally looked at, but we were using it for a special p

The exchanges hire many H1-bs from China, India, and Russia. They try to minimize cost paid per hour. It would be very easy for a spy to pose as a worker and get hired. If you get a couple people in each area, it's completely undetec

Why should someone quit a full-time job to go work for you if there's a 30% chance of being unemployed 2 months later? Even if it's a 30% raise, it isn't worth it if there's also a 30% chance of being stuck.

You have no idea why they didn't hire you. It's probably a completely different reason, even if they said it was the linked list question. If the interviewer likes a candidate, every minor error is forgiven. If the interviewer d

You're switching to working for the client on your current project? If that's a "buy-out", your employer is presumably getting big $$ when you leave. They won't care if it's written into their contract with t

If you already have a semi-established business, you are looking for an employee and not a co-founder. "Looking for a technical co-founder" implies you are starting a brand new business, not looking to bring someone in to an esta

There are no guarantees. It's hard to size up a place until you're there a few weeks/months. For example, at my current job, the boss admitted on the interview that their system was a mess and they wanted to clean it up. Bu

My advice - don't sell. First, it's hard to put a value on it. It isn't clear than the buyer would make enough revenue to keep up with the expense of keeping it running. Second, you aren't obligated to respond to everyo

$100k for 5% implies a valuation of $2M. Is the business (with no customers and no product) worth $2M RIGHT NOW? But it isn't 5%. If it's typical 4 year vesting 1 year cliff, you can be fired after 11 months or 2 years. You will
