For sure the publications of these FOIA'd taken-out-of-context chats will have a massive chilling effect on scientist chatting freely about their thoughts.

None of this is true. Germany has had a conservative government from 1982 to 1999, and from 2005 to 2021. The Green party has been in the government as a junior partner only once from 1999 to 2005. The conservative governments mainly bet on

IMAX was once supposed to deliver the best image quality possible. Nowadays, digital cameras are superior to 70 mm film in every possible way, especially color accuracy and dynamic range. It is really time to stop this pretentious analogue

The short-term stability comes from the quartz oscillator, not from the GNSS. This is nicely visible in the Allan deviation plot of the SRS FS740 GPS reference: https://www.thinksrs.com/images/instr/fs740/FS74

Google's "quantum supremacy" paper was about a 53 qubit chip in 2019 [1]. This year, they reported having 70 qubits [2]. Looking at the papers (and supplements), the gate fidelities and qubit lifetimes have stayed roughly the

There is zero evidence that space is quantized, and this would contradict the Standard Model, as well as General Relativity. The Planck constant gives the relation between the energy of a photon (or more generally a harmonic oscillator) and

Could you list some of these chemicals? A quick google search only came up with pretty benign standard industrial chemicals. Disposal is a complete non-issue since the cells are inert and non-toxic (though recycling probably makes more sens

The qubits aren't meant to be coupled, but in practice everything is coupled at some level. I find it plausible that having a system with tons of degrees of freedom on a limited energy scale might make it difficult to isolate all the d

This doesn't work because the success probability drops exponentially in the length of the algorithm. It is possible that any real application requires quantum error correction which has not been demonstrated in any meaningful way.
